Hej Folks, planing to use an old win 7 pc for gog games. But i noticed that many old games req. Now win 10 or 11. is that true? Or does game like Diablo still work on win 7
I have the same doubts, and I wondered if I should've downloaded the offline installers beforehand. I think that games that were released here with Win 7 support are still working, it's mostly more recent releases that are the issue. If the game fails to install/run, perhaps we can ask support to provide older installer for the games that have been here with Win 7 support before.

Diablo still uses the 2001 exe so should work just as fine on older Windows versions. If there are any issues you can always use DevilutionX, it Supports Windows XP -> Windows 11 and the next release major release will add support for Windows 95.

And if there are any issues with the installer you can use Inno Setup Extractor to extract the required .mpq files from it.

Noice.

If DevilutionX would have some kind of CRT shader/effect, it would be the ultimate way to play Diablo for me.

If that helps, they added shader support in the recently released 86Box 5.0, as shown by Phil's Computer Lab here: https://youtu.be/6f4eP4iXawk?t=167

There are 3rd party shader applications that work with it. If the one you prefer needs a specific renderer you can set an SDL hint so that DevilutionX uses that one.
