Hi!

I love D1, but I prefer the SP experience to the MP one.

Can you please make it so we can select difficulty for SP? In the original the only way was to either glitch it or use that god awful Hellfire mod.

-Mike
Not exactly what you are looking for, but when I finished SP with my Warrior and realized I can't switch, I went here and downloaded a level 50 multiplayer char to glitch it: http://www.dethguild.com/diablo/diablo-character-packs/

(bit of a strange site, but the download was fine)
Ask TinyE. He claims that Diablo is perfectly playable in Single Player only.

One of the reasons Hellfire expansion should have been here. It has all difficulty modes, in SP.
Lack of difficulty levels ...sheesh. I wish I had remembered that SP Diablo can only be finished once and game is over, pretty much. I never would've spent 9 euros on it if I had and now it's too late to ask refund :(

EDIT: Ah, there's a way! Thank you Robette, your link and MP trick worked out fine and now I can enjoy the game again :)

Huh... Its working.

200+- gold instead of 12 on the 1st lvl of dungeon. But cant tell mobs are stronger or not. But still - i can repair now without run out dry.

Thanks for help!
It's a shame we still need to glitch, but it is what it is I guess.

I know Hellfire has it, but I really hate that mod personally.

Due to a questionable scale-up formula, higher difficulty levels give very little additional HP to early monsters. According to Jarulf's Guide, the formula for monster HP scaling is:

Nightmare: 3·normal + 1 (+50 in Hellfire single player and +100 in Hellfire multi player)
Hell: 4·normal + 3 (+100 in Hellfire single player and +200 in Hellfire multi player)

Therefore, monsters with pitiful base health in Normal are almost equally pitiful in Hell difficulty. For example, a monster with 5 HP in Normal rises to 23 HP in Hell. Later monsters (caves/hell floors) have higher base health and get notably more yield from the multiplication term.
There's also bugs that make some monsters weaker in higher difficulties, due to their "increased" stats causing integer overflows.
Here's the thing people, we should not have to glitch this game to get NM and HELL on single player games. With the $10 that we payed, the hellfire expansion should have been included in the game. Hellfire includes 8 dungeon levels, NM and HELL on single player, Monk+Barbarian+Bard classes,1 extra level spells, extra quests, jogging in town, Pepin's automatic healing and more.... As you can see, there is MUCH more stuff in hellfire than the vanilla Diablo.

Not only that, but Blizzard are ungrateful. They literally COPIED Hellfire's novelties, into diablo 2; which partly owes to Hellfire, what it is (running, runes/traps/bombs, Barbarian, crypt -> act 1 monastery, nest -> act 2 maggot lair) and drew both inspiration and gameplay elements, from it. Blizzard are really evil. Plus, they separate us, gamers and collectors, from a gem of the past that deserves recognition and we really want it.

Worst of all, GOG's performance. They ditched a silent rule, on this one: "Bring complete editions/versions of a game, bundled up in packages/collections". And they no longer treat games with special care, like filling them to the brim with extras; hell, this masterpiece lacks even the legendary SOUNDTRACK, of all things!

Now, imagine the Warcrafts that are to follow, to also lack that soundtrack... Warcraft/Diablo without soundtrack... Like sweets without sugar, like car without wheels, like mirror without glass, like coffee without caffeine...

I agree with you TOTALLY.Blizzard told Sierra to make an expansion and then in the middle of the making of the expansion, they told them no MP,no extra classes(besides the monk class). They forgot that Sierra's reputation was on the line not just Blizzard's.Now, I don't believe that Blizzard is evil but they were wrong in this respect. I did agree with Blizzard, However, when they said no bnet for expansion because they needed it for D2. It was their baby. However, to tell Sierra no MP at all was wrong.
