If anyone is interested in developing their characters in the most time efficient way, check out my article on the D1Legit Blog:

Let me know what you guys think, and if there is any other content you would like to see regarding Diablo 1.
> Being level 50 boosts damage and resistances in and of itself.

Only the Hellfire Barbarian gains resistance as a function of character level.

> For standard play-styles you are best solely boosting your primary attribute. Strength on Warrior

Although this does allow you to make maximum use of elixirs, historical guidance was that warriors should raise dexterity first, due to its importance in To-Hit and blocking calculations. A warrior who cannot hit his target cannot hurt it, no matter how high his strength. Similarly, if a warrior fails his blocking roll and is hit hard enough to get stunned, he will need longer to get back in the fight than if he succeeded at blocking the attack, since his stun animation (6 frames) is much longer than his block animation (2 frames).

> Sorcerer can just read books forever

Almost. Maximum base magic for a sorcerer is 250, and books max out at 255, so even sorcerers need a little help at the end. On the bright side, getting +5 magic (or more) is easy.

> Save any spare wizardry rings (or the like), dream flange,

New players may not recognize "dream flange" is a reference to the unique mace Dreamflange. It might be helpful to adjust the spelling and include a note that this is a unique item.
Thank you for reading the article and giving a thoughtful response! I appreciate it.

Your correct, Increasing player level does not increase elemental resistances per say, however, it increases your damage, reduces your chance to get hit by any given enemy, increases your chance to block attacks from any given enemy...

Thats fair, and I have read these historical guides. This is how I build my characters personally and I stand by the advice... abandoned shrines are quite popular and combined with dex. elixers dexterity should be easily maxed. At lower levels I have relied on to hit jewels and weaponry to get by when needed on warrior.

While technically your right, Ive never had a problem reading books as a mage, by time your spells require the 255 magic you will most certainly have some item to boost you over the top.

Thanks! I will correct the spelling in the guide.
