Hello,

I just recently began looking into playing some Diablo with the best mods available (or at least the most recommended), but I wish to know a few things first.

First of all, are any of these latest HD mods compatible with Hellfire, or just vanilla D1 (also what about the GOG versions specifically)?

And lastly, where can I find more information on how to properly install these mods? Apparently it is somewhat of a pain since you have to install the game multiple times and have different directories or something... Is there some sort of guide anyone can refer me to that streamlines this process a bit, or at least goes into more specifics on how to properly install? I'm not the most computer savvy person tbh, but have installed mods with other games before, so if anyone can give me some pointers or point me in the right direction, then I would be very grateful!

BTW I am only looking at modding the Single Player game, not really looking at MP at this time.

Thank you all so much!!!

Hello

Both Belzebub and The Hell 2 require diabdat.mpq file from Diablo 1 install directory. If you don't see file extensions then it's just DIABDAT file. Size is around 493MB. You copy this file into a new directory, put the mod files there. Then extract mod files using a program like WinRAR (it's the one that I use) or winzip. And that's it. Then you just start TH2.exe or Belzebub.exe. For The Hell 2 you should also download and unpack music files or you won't have music playing.

By the way, concerning TH2, it's described in readme and on mod's main page.

In essence, I would say both mods are extremely easy to install, since they only require diabdat.mpq file to function. The Hell 2 has all of Hellfire's content, but it doesn't require Hellfire preinstalled. Belzebub has some of it too but doesn't have extra dungeon levels from Hellfire expansion.

Thank you!! Got Belzebub working like a charm... On a side note, how do I bring up the Help screen in that mod again? It opens at the very beginning of the game for you to browse, and in Vanilla Diablo 1 you press F1 to refer to it whenever, but in this mod F1 doesn't do that... Or anything really I don't think :(

This isn't a super big deal tbh, but since there are many notable changes, having the ability to reference the new Help screen in Belzebub would be awesome!

As for The Hell 2, I got it working fine as well, but how do I turn on the music??? Maybe it tells you in the readme or modmin page... Maybe I should just read those first before asking here. Ha.

Thanks for all your help BTW, seriously I am SO HAPPY to have these mods finally running!! :D
For the hell 2 be sure to download the music files too, maybe that is the problem. Put them inside the folder you created for the game.

"The Hell 2 has all of Hellfire's content, but it doesn't require Hellfire preinstalled." - seems like you treat distributing content you don't own as a feature xD

"Easy to install" he says. I have been trying to install Belzebub for weeks now. I keep getting a missing .dll file error and apparently I am the only person on the internet to have this problem. How do I install this garbage? I just want floating hit numbers. -_-

This is one of the new features for the next version of DevilutionX, you could try out the beta if that is all you want. It includes it's dependencies so you should at least not get issues with missing DLLs

I recommend joining tchernobog's discord which was answers for questions like these : P (there's a channel for belzebub questions)

I do not use Discord. I will just wait for the DevilutionX update then.
