Hello GOG team!

Is it legally possible that you could offer us the "Hellfire"-expansion as a DLC? Is there an issue with the rights? Is the source code lost? Is there an explanation why the game does not contain the expansion?

Long live GOG!

Thank you!

Here is some backstory from the creator of Diablo on the expansion pack "Hellfire"

i just found an interesting read about the creation of the hellfire expansion. in the link below, is a fascinating excerpt from a book about blizzard entertainment and the details of how the development of the Hellfire expansion started and why the two blizzards were against it. it talks about how jog was conceived and why multiplayer was excluded from the expansion amongst other things. it's interesting to read how blizzard detested the idea of an unwanted expansion for diablo but were forced to do it by the upper echolons of the company (outside blizzard ent.) and ended up releasing it to great fanfare and to great success because of the diablo name. GOG players loved Hellfire so much that they were complaining/begging GOG to add it in, yet they had no idea why it was left out in the 1st place when it released on gog. eventually blizzard relented and allowed GOG to include it as a freebie.

I think devs were right, I dislike Hellfire, it removes some spirit of Diablo, how the devs wanted it to be, why Diablo had such success even without this unfitting expansion.
I saw the difference: even now, I like playing Diablo, but I'm fed up if I install the expansion as the game becomes some bland.

"We felt the quality would be destroyed by having someone external work on it."
And it happened, like it did for Diablo 3...

Well I just hate the slow walking in town in the original that's a very good feature in the Hellfire expansion to be able to run.
