Does Diablo 1 have no permission for a wide resolution format? Serious? It is impossible to play on a large monitor with this resolution. And it was written that the reissue ... garbage.
I have the same problem in hellfire. In classic the wide resolution format works.

Game's aspect ratio will be rendered in a 4:3 pillarbox if you are using a widescreen monitor. This is just how the game is designed...

The monitors at the time the game was released were much smaller than the ones we have today. I was ecstatic when I got my first 14 inch monitor and just blown away when I finally got a 17 inch. Also they ran at much lower resolution settings, 640x480 resolution was typical and 800x600 was regarded as high. Stretching that to 1920x1080 would just make for a distorted screen presentation partly because there are more pixels than there is data to define them and partly because the screen aspect ratio is different.

the game is more of a trophy to have in your collection. It was a cool game at the time, but its more of a joke to pay what we have paid for this old beater. The fun factor is like playing checkers by yourself.
Someone else posted this settings for hellfire (this is with my res of 3440 x 1440, hope it works with yours):
Display mode- 3440x1440 60hz
aspect- disabled
vertical sync- default
presentation- fullscreen
scaling- default
gamma- 1.0 (default)
anisotroopic- enabed - af 16x
antialiasing- msaa 8x

I have an ultrawide screen, 36 inch, and this works great for me. Much thanks to the person who posted these stats, i could not find his post.

i hope that's not stretched to fit because it would look super distorted on an ultrawide haha.
It is stretched a little, but not enough to distort it. The health and mana globes are a little bit oval, but it does fill the screen. I'm not sure how to make a screen shot of this game, so i can't post an image.

Thank you so much, this works for me, though the dispaly mode I am using is not the same here, but I guess this one depends on the display devices you have.

DevilutioX has native widescreen support (no streatching er black bars), note that Hellfire support is still only partial (95% of hellfire is there):

BLIZZARD: "We cannot produce a proper Diablo 1 remaster due to our limited resources and the challenging technological constraints of working with legacy software."

DEVILUTIONX: "Hold my beer..."
Well that's not exactly what a remaster is, but it does offer quite a few nice improvements.

LOLest ever ... limited resources ...

That’s right, a brand new free/libre engine is actually much better than a remaster ;)
