MikeydscEradicus: Im thinking my brother and I used to play this on PS1. We didnt have a PC to play it on.
And yes according to the wiki, it was on PS1 as well. So my old memory is still working.
The PS1 controls were never added to PC, simply because at the time, the technology didn't exist in commonality, to use a coontroller with the PC, and though PC controllers existed, by the time Diablo 1 for the PS1 was launched, Diablo 2 was likely under production, and using Controllers on the PC was nothing short of a rarity outside of racing games which, are doable on Keyboard, they still suck on one.

The original never had controller support. The PS1 isn't the original.

As for your RSI, mentioned in later posts, you can just find a 3rd party program that can either allow you to click multiple times with the mouse set down, or, you can simply fool your computer into thinking you're pressing a mouse key, when really you're using a keyboard key.

You can do this by simply looking up the Ease of Access center on your computer, go to Keyboard, and set up Mouse Keys.

If you can use a controller just fine, you can just use the Spacebar to click instead. Realistically, all you need is fingers for 1-8, and the thumb just sits on the spacebar.

MikeydscEradicus: Since the original was controller based, is this capable of it too or is it only kb/m?
The PS1 port split of from Diablo around version 1.04. It had a completely different render with better light and colors and lower resolution graphics and lower fps animations. There where also several optimizations to the game for it to run on the low amount of memory of the PS1. Probably for this reason the changes where never merged back in to Diablo, but it's also worth noting that the port was not made by Blizzard them self's.

All that being said controller support will be added to DevilutionX within the next couple of months so you might wan to hold out for that.

Yes.

Use a program called AntiMicro it is free and opensource: https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro/releases

I use it to bind the left mouse button to a xbox controller so that I use my thumb to click. It works in any game just make sure to run antimicro as Admin.

Cheers

Game controller support has finally landed in DevilutionX, if you are willing to test it you can do so by downloading the latest release (0.5.0 https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX/releases) and the exe from the latest nighly https://4234-143324737-gh.circle-artifacts.com/0/devilutionx_x86.exe

You can see the control scheme here:
https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX#controller-support

We are still working on some improvements for the mage, but it's good enough for the warrior and rouge to be fully playable I would say. Feedback is welcome.

Well good news, we made a release just two weeks ago that include controller support, so just hit download and your will be good to go.

Since my last post we have also finished the implementation so that it also works nicely with the sorcerer.
I hope someone ports Diablo to Original Xbox with controller support, That would be sick.

Edit
I just tested with a Xbox360 controller and works surprisingly well. But is there a button to attack in the direction i am facing without any target? also, is it possible to turn off the auto target? by just pressing two buttons and it could atomatically do everything, from attacking, picking up stuff and open doors. This without even moving the joystick, but apart from that it works and feels great.

There is no way to turn of auto targeting, but maybe we can figure something out at a later point.

I almost bought a Xbox to do a port, but atm my aim is porting it to Xbox 360 first.

Thank you for the reply! Looking forward to the 360 port and hopefully an OG Xbox port do happens.

It seems someone is already working on this:

He he, hadn't seen that video, I recognize some of my menu quirks probably from around 0.4.0, this thing is taking on a life of its own

"Client-Server TCP", it works both on LAN and across the Internet (host needs to port forward).

Did you put your save game in the correct folder? Check the ReadMe.

MikeydscEradicus: You gotta be kidding. The game had 2 shoulder buttons for mana/ health pot and 4 buttons for the skills. You dont need anymore buttons than that.

Plus I see its a 1 click 1 attack meaning you will ruin your mouse like that.

Plus its just easier to play with controller for me with RSI.

galneon: Hahaha... Sounds like your Diablo PS1 experience was watered down to say the least if you could have comfortably played it, according to you, on an SNES controller with 4 face button (+2) and 2 shoulder buttons. Try to forget everything you know about the PS1 version and play the real thing.

Revelation: PS1 emulators exist.
