timppu: Seems to me my GMDX saves just somehow became corrupted or something after some point in the Naval Shipyards, or I did something that somehow broke the game scripting or something. Namely, I noticed that while all those more recent saves had also the problem that the game crashes with an error if I reload such save game while I am already playing the game (they load fine from the starting menu screen though), one a bit older save i happened to have just before entering the building which leads to the big ship didn't have that same problem.

(Also I noticed that the crash that would happen after the lower decks door (auto-save point) would happen also if I tried to go back towards the naval shipyards, when I reach a similar auto-save point. So I was kinda stuck between auto-save points.)

I started playing with that old save game, working my way through to the big ship again. I'll be closely watching that my save games don't start doing the same as before, ie. the save game crashes the game if I reload it within the game. So far so good.

All I can say is that besides just keeping recent save games, keep also some older save games around, e.g. one per mission, to which you can go back to if needed.
i think that's an issue carried over from the original Deus Ex code. in vanilla DE, i often lost hrs of gameplay because i didn't make multiples save and only used quicksave. i guess this mod didn't fix that major problem.

i don't remember the original game having hard to read savegame names. not sure what the mod or GOG version did with it.

---

anyhow, is there anyway to disable all graphical mods, but keep the features of GMDX? that would be great since i'm running an older laptop. and modders never bother to test sys reqs.

scientiae: Did you ever get through the naval yard?
Yes when I replayed (most) of that level from an older savegame, I didn't have issues anymore, for the rest of the level or the whole game for that matter.

Something just went wrong with the save game file(s) the first time I played that level, after certain point all subsequent save games would be somehow corrupted.

Cloud save?

I currently don't use Galaxy, so no cloud saves for me

Well, that is one less possible source for ongoing regression bugs. :)

As I noted earlier (vide supra), the naval yard had what appears to be some fiendishly complex spaghetti coding in the vanilla game. Probably a few messy stacks overflowing. :o

Is it possible to load this mod simultaneously with the Revision mod, or would they need separate disc instances? (I am loathe to do this, however, because this could clobber the Registry flat file entry for Deus Ex.)

I'm not sure, I've never used the Revision mod. I personally wouldn't try to mix them that way.

What works for me is to simply install the game twice in two different directories on the same disk, once with Revison and once with GMDX. Deus Ex seems to be one of the few games where nothing really important gets written to the registry. I think you can even just copy the whole game folder and it will still work.

Yes, that was the implication of my question, thank you! :)
Hello everyone!

Just started playing the GMDX Mod for the first time and for some reason all the items I've picked up in the training, including their mods, transferred into my new game. Is this working as intended?

Its not a big deal, if anything, it made the beginning of the game much more easier, as I already had the sniper rifle and assault shotgun plus few other items, just wondering if this is a bug or inteded.

Also, maybe this will change, but so far the game is fairly easy. I'm playing on Medium, as that is what was recommended if I'm playing GMDX for the first time, however I finished the original Dues Ex countless times on Realistic (this is actually the first time I'm playing on any other difficulty), so I'm starting to worry the game won't be much of a challenge. Will the game get progressively more difficult or did I do a mistake here?

Thanks for any helpful answers!

clarry: Probably late to answer but..

I very much doubt that you were intended to get the items from the training.

As for difficulty.. well, I haven't actually done a 100% playthrough with gmdx but I think it's still pretty easy (coming from another player who's done realistic countless times), especially on medium. I'd turn it up.
Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, I don't know what happened with those items from the training transferring to the main game. I first played the training just for fun and to see if there are any changes in the GMDX (yes, they are!) and the moment I finished, I clicked on New Game, so I guess the inventory files or something was still loaded and transferred...

I'm bit too far in the game to start again with higher difficulty at this point and sadly you can't change your difficulty once you start a game, but its still fun. The lower difficulty gives me chance to experiment with some stuff at least :)

That was a bug in the original game. :)

clarry: Interesting, I've never encountered that even though I've done the training quite a few times.
IIRC, you have to restart after (during?) a training session. It's been a while, but I think I encountered it when I died doing something I shouldn't during the training program, then started into the game.
