I am getting the crash at the first "load" screen after installation. I gather from forum searches that the game is not compatible with Gforce video cards but what about Intel express chipsets?
Thx

Not sure where you got this, but according to this list, it should work (your chipset has GMA 950)

Also, here someone with the same GPU (GMA 950), although on Mac, claims that it works just fine - http://www.gog.com/forum/deus_ex_series/works_on_mac/post3

edit: try to install this - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Nvidia GeForce Experience could cause problems too. Uninstall it if the tool is installed on your system.

If you've got two GPUs, an Intel and the Gforce, try explicitly running the game on one of them.
Go to the Nvidia Control Panel, Manage 3D Settings, Program Settings, and add the game's executable and then select the preferred graphics adapter.
