Played Deus Ex years ago and loved it
Bought it today in the sale and wondering...
can it be played as is...the GOTY edition from GOG?
or are there serious bugs?
I dont want to use any mods or 'enhancements' at this point..
I want to play it as it was made

I don't recall any serious bugs. The game works great without any mods.

Yes it can.

There are minor bugs, the main problem only happens with certain video card (By example my Geforce GT 850M). In my case by example, had to be using OpenGL because the other options make the scenarios to dark to play and I had issues with the frame rate of the game, as everything was moving too fast (making impossible to see the cinematic in game).

There are some mods that are useful too. the first one fix the last bugs from the game.

I remember the story being very gritty and grim and dark
with some really great twists

You should use Deus Ex v2 as it fixes some bugs and doesn't change gameplay / game blalance.
