Hello,

my friend has bought this game but it will not run on his system. I have tried it on mine and it runs perfectly.

I tried to attach the dxdiag file but it won't let me so it is available if anyone would like to see it.

Thank you

Could this possibly be one of those issues where Windows is requiring Administrator access to do something? Not an expert on 7 but I do know m$ stepped up that ridiculousness from XP.

Your friend MIGHT need to be logged in as Administrator to properly install the game. As for his DXDIAG try exporting it to a plain text file and posting that. Maybe you can get some more substantive help.
don't install into /program files/ or any place like that install into c:\Games\DeusEx or whatever... major #1 fix all solution is to never use the program files for games...

and as stated make sure hes got admin privileges and a malware program isn't blocking the games access to windows files..

on a side note buy a copy for yourself if you enjoy it enough to keep his copy installed on your machine

Perhaps you should try running it through steam. I bought the game through steam and it works just fine. Also have you tried running compatibility mode?
In pretty much any case, but especially on newer systems, I would recommend using kentie's launcher. There's really no reason not to, and it solves some problems related to running the game on modern systems.

Hopefully it helps.
To recap by bullet point:

* Make sure that you have Administrator rights, install and run as Administrator.
* Install to separate folder, never the base folder(s), never under /program files/.
* Use Kentie's Launcher.

That's really all the things I can think of. All of those are true for me by default and I have never had any issues with running Deus Ex on any system.
Thank you to everyone who posted we will try these solutions shortly and get back to you

Thanks again

Sorry to pull up this aging thread everyone but I have to ask..

Why do you say not to install it to the base folder (C: /Program files)?

I have just rebuilt a Windows 7 proffesional system from the ground up and have been installing most of the games to the base C:/Program files x86 folder, and I havent run into any problems yet? the only problem I have had is that Stalker (Call Of Pripyat) crashed a few times, but thats been modded and is flaky anyway..

I have seen this being written on a few forums now but it has never been explained and when I do search the net it comes up with half answers and contradictions!

..Just thought i'd ask as I'm interested to know why it's a bad thing :P

That did it for me right away, had the same problem with Win 7 64 home premium.

Too bad the game has aged so terribly - clunky controls, terrible dialogue sound quality and at times awful adlibby music did me in, even though I was determined to forgive the horribly dated 3D graphics. I'm sure I might have loved this game when my roommate raved about it back 12 years ago, but now I just can't get into it.

Oh, well. Thanks for the good tip anyway.
