Hi all,

I'm on version 1.112fm, bought through GOG, and everytime I try to talk to a person in the underworld bar the game crashes to desktop.

I tried several things already:
1. Apply Deus Exe
2. Apply Community Update (game won't start at all)
3. Apply Confix
4. Apply Unoffical Patch V2

Since I already started a vanilla game, I don't want to use Deus Ex Trancended, as the saves are incompatible.

For now, I only observe those crashes in the Underworld Bar and only when I talk to people. I can stand in the room for 2min, nothing happens, but as soon as I talk to a person, it'll crash after about 10sec. It does not matter which NPC I approach.

Anybody have a suggestion?
Thanks!

Well, what's the error, if any?
None unfortunately, at least not without tweaking something to see a console.
It just crashes to desktop, no error message or anything.

But that's a good idea! Do you know a way to enable debugging through the console somehow?
I did a quick google but nothing turned up except typing 'legend' which I will try later.

Activating the cheats would indeed expose a bit. But what I'd suggest instead is look to see if a log file was dropped nearby.
So, I checked again, but unfortunately I can neither find a log file of any kind (I checked for recently modified files, i.e. the time of the crash) nor does activating cheat mode and typing in 'legend' (for some debug output) help anything.

During my attempts, I even noticed that the Underworld Bar map from the Community Patch had a different file size and so I thought I'd use that (backed up the original map), but to no avail.

I guess I'll just have to skip the Underworld Bar for now and hope no essential dialogue will have the same issue moving down the story.

Thanks for your input!
If you have any idea how to enable debug or writing to a log file, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers!
Are you using DirectX or OpenGL?

I'm using OpenGL myself and had no issues in the bar w/ Kentie's Launcher.

My specs = i7 4720 HQ; 16 GB RAM; GTX 960m with 4 GB VRAM; newest Nvidia drivers; 2 TB HDD; W10 x64.

No clue on how to get a Log file/Debug going.

Greetings All,

I fired this game up again after some years to scratch my Deus Ex itch, plus I just bought Xpadder to replace PGP and wanted to take a trip down memory lane with a controller from the couch. I ran into this same issue while tryin to talk to Dan (The guy in Underworld that is debatin buyin some Ambrosia off the street for his wife) and the game just CtD with no error/explanation consistently after a few tries, which after a google search lead me here.

I tried a few things in the Kentie Launcher config (tried different renderers including the OpenGL as MysterD suggested, set to use single CPU, etc.) with no luck. I did install the OpenAL audio driver yesterday using the instructions on the PCGamingWiki (I stopped after step two of the "Restore 3D Sound" section) cuz I had some audio cracking/popping on Liberty Island (beginning of the game) and after some google searching for that issue, I landed on the OpenAL resolution which debatably resolved the cracking/popping. Lo and behold, when I switched the game back to usin Galaxy Audio instead of OpenAL in the DeusEx.ini file, the issue is now resolved.

Dunno if the OP is still having this issue and is using the OpenAL driver or if there are any others out there experiencing this issue with the OpenAL driver, but I figured I'd post my resolution cuz the googler is slim pickins for this issue ;)

Some rig details:
Original GOTY disc (in ISO form) I got with a Sound Blaster card I bought back in 2001/2002 /w 1.112fm patch.
Kentie Launcher v8.1
Renderer: Direct3D9Support (Direct3D10Support kills the framerate for some reason I don't care to troubleshoot)
All eye candy (Aniso, AA, etc.) forced thru the nVidia control panel (Deus Ex.exe specific, not global), some settings like light coronas and volumetric shadows, etc. enable thru preferences console.
1920x1080 full screen @120FPS (Set in the Launcher config)
LG OLED 65C8
Old Acer Aspire V3-772 running Win10 x64
Core i7 4702MQ @2.20GHz
32GB RAM
nVidia GTX760M
SSD
Just posting here to say that I was having this specific issue as well, and my fix was disabling DirectSound in the Kentie launcher's configuration settings. As soon as I unchecked that box, didn't have any issues in Underworld anymore. Hope this helps anyone who finds this!
