the fact that is plays auto as the game is loading was not smart... the result is a patchy vid that has the sound out of sync with the images unless your default player happens to have a codex (not included)

I get why you did it... not a major issue but the sort of thing that should be fixed in the final version.
Could you tell us your PC's specs? I suspect it's a performance problem. This is the first time we've used the video player inside Unreal, and all our dev machines are high-end, so we don't yet have a firm handle on how performant it is.

As for the details you mentioned, the video does not begin to play until after the game finishes its initial load into the main menu map. This is why escaping the intro video immediately puts you in the main menu. As such, the strain that is loading is over before the video plays. As for the codec issue, the intro video is an MP4 file using the H.264 video codec and the AAC audio codec, which are all universal standards for video playback.
Not to mention we WANT to be able to let folks know what is coming next - as even though we do a lot of communication the game itself is the best spot to make sure folks see it.

The system is a stock Asus tp500ln running w8.1

I would sugest that codex will work if people have Microsoft Media player as their default but I'm not testing it because I use this system for work

p.s, as I've already said the system plays your game without issue so well done.

yes I get that but when you force people to watch it each time it comes across as annoying... have it play once at first launch or put an option in the settings to turn it off for next time mate

You are not forced to watch it, you can escape through it.
