To get Rebirth working on Mac you will need to do the following:

First download Rebirth for Mac OS X from the downloads page: http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/download-dxx-rebirth/ and copy the Rebirth files to separate folders (one for D1 and one for D2).

Inside the GOG .dmg files there is a Descent 1 (or Descent 2) .app file. Right click on it and click on "Show Package Contents". Open up Contents, then Resources, then game. Right click on Descent (2).app and click "Show Package Contents" again. Then open up Contents, then Resources again. Then right click on Descent (2).boxer and hit "Show Package Contents" one more time. Finally open up C Descent (2).harddisk. That's where all the data files that you need are.

For Descent 1 you need descent.hog and descent.pig. Copy them over to the directory where the Rebirth app is, and you're good to go.

You can do the same thing for Descent 2, you'll just need to copy alien1.pig, alien2.pig, descent2.ham, descent2.hog, descent2.s11, descent2.s22, fire.pig, groupa.pig, ice.pig, intro-h.mvl, other-h.mvl, robots-h.mvl, and water.pig.

And that should be it :)

Hi, I downloaded Rebirth and the original game (Descent 1) from GOG. I created a new folder on my Applications and copied the Rebirth files and the .hog & .pig from the original game. But when I try to open D1X Rebirth I get the Error message " Error: Could not find a valid hog file...". I already tried to rename the files using lowercase.

Copying the original game files into D1X Rebirth/Contents/Resources/ (right click on D1X Rebirth and "Show Package Contents" to get there) worked for me.
