What game are you playing? This forum serves three Descent titles. Are you using the stock game from GOG or a source port? If a source port, which one?

Descent 3?

Which version of the game?
What is your O/S and setup?
Are you using any command switches in the setup?
What is your video renderer set to?

sorry about that. I'm playing descent 3 version 1.4 on windows 10. rendered in opengl.
Everything else in game works fine.
command line: -nointro -height 1080 -width 2560 -aspect 2.37 -framecap 60

You're playing above D3's maximum recommended resolution. Try scaling down to 1920x maximum and see if anything changes (also try testing the game in 4:3 too, just to see if the crashes go away)

Try applying this patch: https://sectorgame.com/d3/downloads/?nav=display&file=864

And add these command lines: -usesmoothing -nomultitexture -himem -hividmem -subpixelcorrect -nocompress -nooutragelogo -nosparkles -nomotionblur -z32bit
