After modifying the settings nanually from the "conf" files , the sensitivity of the mouse makes the game almost impossible to play :( . The settings made only affect the turning pitch and not the up and down pitch . Also , the turning pitch does not maintain a steady speed ( it goes as normal, and after a few seconds it has a moment of speed drop ) . The up and down pitch moves incredibly slow , and it's imposible to look down and up with the mouse in combat . ( a very frustrating issue ) I'm using a samsung pleomax mouse , and my laptop run's on the 64 bit version of Windows 8 .

edit: sorry for posting the issue as a question, i'll be more carefull next time :)

This question / problem has been solved by A_Future_Pilotimage
I'm assuming you're using DOSBox to play. I would suggest grabbing a copy of the source port dxx-rebirth. You can find links and such in the sticky'd FAQ on this forum :)
yes, this solves the problem, although i would have been more happy with a sollution that would not implie a full graphics and sounds overhault :) . Thank you anyway :D .
You can still play with default look/sound in Rebirth :) Just disable all settings in the graphics options and set the resolution to as low as it will go. Then either use MIDI sound (buggy on most modern computers) or get one of the AddOn packs :)
i marked a sollution too fast i'm afraid :( . i'm using the "d1x-rebirth_v0.57.3" port for descent , and the mouse issue is still present . It is really anoying during gameplay . vertical movement of the mouse is extremly slow in game .

edit: and yes, i have mingled with the mouse settings within the application and tried to turn on vsinc ( it helped with other games )

AH, this may be because the mouse sensitivity is too high. Either in the game settings or windows settings or both. Because of the way the mouse works in Descent, if it moves to fast, the ship can't pick it up and so only moves a very small amount. Something like that.
Nope, didn't do the trick, however, i noticed a little more rapid movent in the up-down pitch when i move the mouse a little slower .. bu still it's hardly playable , and i wonder, if it were a settings problem, why would it affect only the up and down pitch ? , lateral movement works perfectly fine :D .

edit: the same goes for the lateral movement of the mouse, when i move it a little bit slower, the ship turns a little more faster . Could it be a dpi related problem ? My mouse has 800 dpi .

Yes I think it may be related to DPI...here's a post about it: http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/frm/index.php/topic,85.msg8544.html#msg8544

I seem to recall there being a couple more...if you search that forum you might can find them :)
i'll look into it and return with the results in the next days :D .
