You can turn off most of the hud in Descent 3, but you can't turn off the Score or popup text every time you pick stuff up.

Press F2 in game.

Select HUD from the right side menu and turn everything off.

Select General from the rightside menu and deselect "Show Reticle".

Return to your game.

If you have rear view windows enabled, press Shift + F! and the Shift + F2 to turn them off.


I can't figure out how to turn off the green text. I have the same problem with Descent and Descent 2. It's hard coded into the game.

If I'd known that before hand, I wouldn't have bought this. Oh well.

You can enter a cheat code to keep it at Score 0 though. Just type "treesquid" while playing the game.


There is a trick though. If you shrink the size of the window down enough with the "-" key, it will get rid of the Score text. However, then you have large black bars all around the gameplay area.

Um...just curious, why exactly do you want absolutely no hud?

I want no hud for many reasons. Here are a few, take your pick:

1. It's a basic simple option that SHOULD be included with all games, but often isn't (like customizable controls and the option to skip cutscenes). It basically comes down to choice. Let ME choose how to play. Would you like it if you couldn't choose your controls? I feel the same way about huds.

2. I'm the HUDFREEGAMER. If I played games WITH the hud, then I wouldn't be me.

3. I like to feel like I'm in the game and huds break the immersion.

4. I play on a 54 inch plasma tv and huds cause burn-in, especially if the hud is bright green.

5. No hud makes for better screenshots to use as wallpaper.

6. I have absolutely no desire to constantly know what my score is. I really could not care less. Since I don't want to have any of that information in my face all the time, I simply don't see the point of it.

7. Huds block my view of games.

8. I find that I never look at huds when playing games except to notice how distracting they are. If I'm not using it, why not get rid of it if I can?

9. I prefer the increased challenge of not having information spoon fed to me all the time.

10. Games are just way more fun to play without huds.
