Don't get into it. There's been entirely too much flame over it already. They each have entirely different viewpoints on how to port Descent. In short:

D2X-XL: Upgraded graphics and gameplay for modern systems.

DXX-Rebirth: Original gameplay with optional graphical enhancements for modern systems.


I personally use Rebirth.

Rebirth is the best. Play with it.

I don't intent to start flames or anything... just want to know which one that has the most user base in quantity and better multiplayer experience?

Rebirth is truer to the original Descent.

XL is flashier and more graphic intensive.

I believe more people play Rebirth using KALI.

Actually with the latest release you don't even need to use kali...Rebirth now has its own online tracker that you can connect to in-game :)

To connect to games you can just go look for them...if you want to host you have to forward port 42424 on your router :)

You don't need Kali but there are alot of Descent players there still looking for games and it's also a chat client. It was actually created to allow D1 multi on the net back in 1993-94ish
