After searching through several forums and walkthroughs, I am now quite certain that I have encountered another game breaking bug.

In the section of the game involving the mine bike, you're supposed to remove the halogen headlight from the mine bike and insert it into the box with the red lamp (after removing that). I initially removed the halogen lamp, but at some point as I was puzzling out various other solutions, I re-inserted the halogen lamp into the mine bike. I managed to fix the mine bike shortly afterwards and rode it through the tunnel until it arrived back to its original position - reversed.

Now it appears that the halogen lamp has disappeared. I have tried to mouse over the mine bike thoroughly, but the lamp does not appear.

Is it possible to remove the halogen lamp from the mine bike AFTER the bike has been reversed? If not, I will have to load a save game from chapter one, which will likely dissuade me from finishing the game.

I hope that somebody here reads this and has an answer. Thanks in advance!

P.S. If this does turn out to be a game breaking bug, it will be the third serious bug I have found in my playthrough (and other people have reported even more bugs that I personally did not encounter). Judging by various forum posts, Daedalic does not appear to be interested in fixing their game. Therefore I suggest to anybody who is on the fence about buying this game to avoid it until these issues have been fixed.

I just played through this section and did the same thing while trying to figure out the puzzles. However, I was able to mouse over the cart and get the bulb back out. The cart has to be pointed in the correct direction (front end to the east) or Rufus complains he can't reach it. It may also have to be in the mine cart station (as opposed to the upper floor).

I saw a sort of bug with the mine cart puzzle but I was still able to get passed it. That was the only problem spot.

Thank you for the reply. Hmm, I went back and tried to mouse over the cart once again (on both the upper and lower story) but the damned bulb still wouldn't show up. Is there a way to change the direction the mine cart is pointing towards once it has already been turned?

I'm playing the Mac version of the game, I probably should have mentioned that earlier in case it makes a difference. The Mac version had some other issues (such as dialogue menus which you can't exit), so perhaps this is another bug specific to this version?

That may be the case (mac version).

Each time you travel the tracks in the car it reverses the direction the car is facing. That said, when the car is on the lower level, when I moused over the car carefully, it still showed the bulb location. I just couldn't remove it unless it was facing the correct direction. So try riding the mine bike again to reverse its direction.

It will keep reversing direction until you get the lever off the tracks at the u-turn, which you can only do if you have the white bulb to illuminate the tunnel.

So, stupid question: currently, you're not able to get the cart to the crane, right?

Yeah, I'm not able to get the cart to the crane, and the bulb does not appear regardless of how many times I ride the mine cart around the tracks. I'm starting to believe this is truly a bug, although judging by the other forums I've trawled through, it is not a common one. I'm usually very careful about mousing over items (having played dozens of "hunt-the-pixel" type adventure games in the past), but I simply cannot find the bulb.
I've decided to uninstall the game for now, as I cannot see a convenient way to get past this problem and as far as I understand, I was reaching the end of the story anyway.

I appreciate all your help and I hope Daedalic decide to fix their game for Mac users in the future.
