Weird issue. Game worked fine when I originally downloaded and installed it. I was able to play it. Now when I try launching it, the game crashes with Program Error and saves a SYSDump.txt

Here is the most relevant of the dump:

This program has caused an access violation exception at 005b27a0h
Attempting to read from 00000008h

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have tried verifying the files, downloaded 96 MB but the problem persists.

I am on Windows 10. Found some other threads on Steam and GOG that suggested Direct Play needs to be installed and it is.

Hopefully you found the solution already, but if not, try this - it worked for me, for the same fault:

Delete or rename the dfv.cfg file. Next time you play it will go through the GPU detection bit again, and then take you to the main menu. A new dfv.cfg file will be created, so don't worry about losing the original file.

For me, it worked out fine to delete the entries in the lines hw3d_name and hw3d_guid.
Should look like hw3d_name = "" and save the file.
So you got the hw detection at start up of the game and all settings except the screen resolution aren't lost.
