i got the game cheap on steam some time ago but i always prefer gog.com versions normally cause of drm free, more modding etc. but is it real or the same?
can i patch/mod the game on steam the same way as the gog.com version?

AFAIK yes.
Apparently the GoG version is one mini-patch behind.

I'm still on the fence about buying this game on GoG or Steam. It's not TOO big of a deal since it only fixes one stupid bug but what about future updates to this game?

I just can't decide......

Is the GOG version in better or worse shape than the Steam version? By default the resolution locked to 1280x720 and the color palette looks unnatural. Fortunately these issues can be fixed, but I don't want play a game that tends to corrupt game saves. Taking backups is recommended.
I don't know if the GOG team has patched the game on their own.

EDIT: GOG support confirmed that GOG hasn't created custom patches for the game.
