Why wasn't the soundtrack included in the GOG version? I can see that it on sale on Steam

Well, I can tell you that on the Steam version, the soundtrack is locked away in "bgm.xwb", which isn't readable by user end players - it's a big wave bank you'd need to open with DirectX tools. I've no reason to assume the GOG version's file structure would be any different.

Remember though that the soundtrack is NOT included by default in the Steam version, so in total you're paying around $15 for it on Steam for the game + soundtrack, compared to $10 on GOG for the game. Considering that the so-called "official" soundtrack is far from all the songs in the game, with the fan soundtrack from years ago being far more exacting, you might be better off just nabbing the game for $10 on GOG, waiting for them to patch it to 1.01b here (if they haven't already) and looking into the fan compilation OST, which has 47 tracks to the "official" OST's mere 25.

Edit: Hey Sor, thanks again for your advice if you happen back through this thread. I ended up picking the game up here and through your suggestion was able to find the fan compilation you spoke of through a simple Google search. For anyone else passing through, it's definitely worth seeking out, 48 tracks and they're very good quality as far as I've listened through (also available in .flac, though I didn't try downloading that version, so the filehost may not be up any longer).
