I've been a fan of this game since playing it on the 360 and I want to own it on GoG, but I keep reading about how it doesn't work properly and how it will never get the latest patch.

I need some direct info to make the decision to get or not get this.

What is the significance of that patch? Will GoG be getting it? Anytime soon? (Or does it already have it and I'm just reading outdated stuff?)

The game works, I've played it from start to finish with no issue whatsoever. I know it got patched once, apparently there's a second patch that never made it to GOG, and there are no news on whether it will come here or not, but the game is patched and absolutely playable.

There are a few issues, and, well, gaming on a PC has the disadvantage of a multitude of hardware and software configurations that can make a game not run on a specific machine while it runs flawlessly on some other one with the same theoretic tech specifications, but that's a risk you take with PC gaming. If you aren't able to run the game at all, even after submitting a trouble ticket to GOG support, you can always ask for a refund.

I'd highly recommend getting the game from here, as it is 100% DRM-free and you end up actually *owning* the game you bought, not just renting a service in order to play it. Sadly, Deadly Premonition is one of the few games on GOG that's lacking in the extras department, but it's not like you get something extra when you buy it on Steam, as well.

You mean other than that extra patch?

Lol! I was talking about extras as in goodies. Soundtracks, manuals, artbooks... the Steam version surely has the advantage of being patched one version further.

Probably true :D

Thank you for letting me know that you, at least, can successfully play the game.
The only thing Steam patch fixes is for box pushing puzzles - you can pretty easily avoid the bug :)
There are occasional crash problems, and since you can't save at will it's possible to lose a fair amount of progress. It's by no means unplayable, but it is less stable than one should reasonably expect.
