I had the problem with the crossbow: I have four ammo types, and if I choose the right one for example Deacon equips something completely different. I tried to pick the fire arrows, and I gave up after some time and used Molotovs.

What the game does not tell you is that you don't necessarily have to choose something with a mouse click. If you choose it by hovering over it and pressing "E" it picks the right one.

Wish I had known earlier.
I understand the need for the wheel but I can't stand how it will just default to something different than what was last picked so I don't even trust the numeric shortcuts anymore because I last used a rock but then I hit six and throw what I think is a rock but ends up being a flashbang. So much for that stealth maneuver or I shoot the crossbow thinking it's a normal bolt but ends up being a residue bolt because the game decides to change it for me. The game is pretty good but that is a major annoyance for me.

Absolutely, this is a bug that could (and should) be easily fixed. But well, like you said, the game is pretty good, actually so good that I forgave things that would have made me stop playing other titles.

I've discovered for some reason it defaults to the residue bolt, if any are in the inventory, and a lot of the time it simply won't let me change to a normal bolt so I have to load up any other bolt to be able switch it to the normal one otherwise it'll stay stuck on the residue bolt.

PS I can't stand not being able to cut the clothesline ambush trap half the time as well.
