Hi all, I was wondering if we should put together a "monster guide" for Darkstone. A lot of the monsters on higher difficulties are hard to defeat, but they have weaknesses which I think would be great to collaborate and help each other on.

For example: playing on Hero mode with my Thief, I've run into a lot of trouble fighting monsters with Reflections on. I've found that I can hit them in melee with a throwing axe, or, from what I've read (and about to try) you can cast Forgetfulness on them to turn off their Reflections. Also my brother (who is playing a Sorceress) has encountered problems with the Goblins who ride giant bats.

Just a thought, if anyone wants to help out or get involved it would be amazing :)

EDIT: Forgetfulness in fact does work :) Hooray!

Those bat riding goblins can be very difficult since they often come in big clusters and you end up surrounded by a ton of little red bats. :D I often skipped them, to be honest (invisibility, run past).

IIRC, poison cloud didn't work on them...if they're behind grates, magic bomb might work. Does thunder work on them? Or the stone spell?

Anyway...even in the old days I don't remember much in the way of a monster guide for Hero/Legend difficulties. Most just parroted what the official guide/walkthru book said, which wasn't much. Most of the time they're not that different from other difficulties, they just move/attack faster (everything is sped up) and hit harder. A few more high resist/immunities I think.

Dealing with reflection, the teleporting mages, and certain 'swarm' type enemies were the hardest. The repair bill for gear goes up by leaps and bounds too as they wear out faster and faster (more hits to kill each enemy).

The Absorption spell or Vampiric attribute on the weapon can be helpful.

Thunder doesn't work on the bat riders, haven't tried stone!

And yes Wizards are the biggest pain. My brothers serving game actually crashed from the sheer amount of them constantly teleporting around (and in the process our crystal of strength disappeared).

And yeah for the most part monsters aren't different, but some don't appear on the lower difficulties.

Reflection is easy, forgetfulness works wonders :) also, on that, I've found it also renders them unable to use ranged attacks (e.g. giant spiders can't spit fireballs).

Vampirism is amazing, though I'm finding storm the greatest (if it hits, it bounces everything around, even those who still have deflection up or those seemingly immune to magic).

I'll give Magic Bomb + Stone a try on the bat riders though.
