Can't get my game to launch right, says I have no free space on my HDD and that it needs 50/70 to run.

I also have no sound unless I try to mess with teh app compat settings. In game graphics are very flashy at times like a strobe light. HELP! ^_^
Same here.

Worked fine the first time I ran it, just went to start it a few mins ago and saying I need 50Mb hard disc space to run, I have over 600Gb free space.

Tried the usual, installing to root (D:\Darkstone) running as administrator etc and nothing is working now though.
same problem here, windows xp machine
Same issue here. Ran perfectly on the day I installed it. And I launched it several times that day. But now, getting that same out of disk space error.

I expect it's because the game cannot handle disk drives over a certain size or sommat. It's likely that using Win 95/98 compatibility might fix it, but of course that cannot be used as the exe then expects the CD =/

Contacted GOG support about it. I hope they will reply. (I've not had much luck with replies from GOG).
I also contacted GOG support. However it is working fine for me now. This seems intermittent. I think it has something to do with programs running in the background.

When it stopped working for me Windows was waiting to do a restart from updates so had the tray notification. After I done the restart and Windows done the update the game started working fine. This could be something to do with the pagefile being partially full and the game is seeing that and thinking that there is no read / write space.

Have a look at the startup in msconfig (access from the run command, just type msconfig). See what programs are listed in the startup and remove anything non essential, Adobe etc then apply and do a restart.
The only solution I've found so far is simply reinstalling every time I want to play =/ Even after a restart, the problem persists once it's appeared once.

I'd try filling up the hard drive until only 2 or 3 gigs were left free, but it's bit silly to do that when I have almost a 100 gigs free space right now. And making another smaller partition just for this game isn't a viable solution either right now.
Weird. I had that same problem the other day. Just as a test I ran it again this morning and it started without a problem, and I haven't even done a reboot since then. =/
Has anyone gotten any suggestions from support on this yet?
Same here. It ran fine 1 time. Then I tried to play it again and it won't work. Tried different comparability settings, re installed it, still nada. It acts like I didn't even try to run the program. I mean it doesn't do anything now. Strange it worked the first time fine. I've ran all the might and magics, arcanum and steamworks and quite a few other games with no problem. Also, the insert CD line popped up with windows 95 and 98 compatibility.

The game engine checks the amount of free disk space, but can not handle more than 64GB of free space. There are two solutions:
- Install on a pendrive
- Create a small partition (max 64GB) for games of this type of problem
If too much free space is indeed the problem, you can also install Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit, then create a database profile for the game executable that has the fix EmulateGetDiskFreeSpace applied.

It's a really nifty tool, and works great for many of my old games.
It's been odd for me. Yesterday would save fine, today threw the not enough memory to save error, then kept yelling at me to insert the CD.
Bad Draak.

And she works fine again this morning. Something must have made it sad when I kept alttabbing in and out.

And then it didn't work again. Then did. Then didn't. I'll just play something else.

had the same problem, the game worked and then did not anymore, on a partition of 55GO, but now on my partition where windows is installed, 20GO, works well..

guess that the limit is may be not 64GO but less

Hope it'll help

EDIT: 2 weeks, and still working without any issues

I have the game installed on 30GB partition. I've played for the last two weeks on and off without any problems. And now, I get the same silly error as the rest of you. Ridiculous.

EDIT: I deleted the stuff inside Darkstone/Temp folder and it works again.
