I dug out my old copy of this game and decided to finish it. I had never really gotten far in it before. I ran into a totally hilarious moment the other day. Even my wife laughed and she wasn't even looking at the screen.

**** SPOILER BELOW ****

So after you get the fourth crystal and return to town there's a huge pyramidal monolith in the center and the whole town is dark with red lightning. It's very ominous and, hats of to Delphine, gives you the real impression that the badguy actually cares about stopping you and doing something about your actions (as opposed to Diablo who just waits for you to come kill him).

When you go to ask a villager what's going on he gives you this somber narrative about how darkness has overtaken the whole land and it's all due to that huge monolith called the Darkstone. Ooooo.... scary.

Then click on that same NPC immediately after he finishes talking to you and he says...

"Good morning to you!" in that same chipper, upbeat way they always do.

So incongruous... hahaha!
and they continue saying "good morning to you even when it seems to be dead of night (nobody sleeps in this town).

not quite so funny: when you're given a "land quest" by a city-dweller (fetch this or that item), you return with the item, everyone says "good morning to you", and not a soul acknowledges that you've returned with the item they requested. i currently have a large pile of retrieved and unacknowledged items sitting in town.

Click on the item in your inventory so that it replaces the cursor, then, with the item as the cursor, click on the person who gave you the quest. They will then give you a cash reward. :^)

What stinks is that I'm pretty sure you have to remember exactly who gave you the quest. You can click the button in the far bottom right corner to go back through your conversations, but it's a bit cumbersome.
i believe you're right about having to speak to the person who gave you the quest, but i've tried the item-as-cursor approach ("look! i got it!") with everyone walking around, with no response. then again, given all the milling around in and out of town, i suppose i probably just missed the quest-giver. hadn't thought about replaying the conversation -- that's a good tip, thanks.
Another humorous moment today. I'm not sure if it's like this every time or if I just got "lucky," but the person who gave me the quest to kill "Evil Garth" was "Garth" in town. Haha... guess he didn't like his evil twin from an undead dimension ruining his good name. :^)

Actually, the quest giver at least always stays around one of the traders, at least in my experience, so you should just check people around traders.

@gammaleak
Thanks for sharing, these little funny bits are always good for a chuckle. The "good morning to you" discrepancy I've noticed myself, and as for Evil Garth, well, long live the random generator! :-)
(Provided it's not intentional.)
