Yes, I have the same problem, but no solution so far. I finished The Cauldron with no such behavior, but as soon as I take a few steps into Shadow Gorge, around where the game shows the name of the area on screen, then the game crashes to the desktop.

I can reload the autosave that's slightly within the entrance of the gorge just fine and as long as I don't move Death, the game will continue working, but as soon as I take either a few steps into the gorge, or try walking back out of it from my position, the game crashes. Fast traveling to back to another location works and I can run around just fine, but back at the gorge, the game crashes.

I tried changing various options inside the game menu as well as in the nvidia control panel, but it didn't help so far.

Here's my system specs, maybe we have something in common:

Intel i5-4670k
8GB RAM
Win7, 64Bit
GeForce GTX 960 with 4GB
nvidia driver version 358.50

Yeah... Somehow, very strange. Up until this point, i had only 2 crashes, randomly. Cauldron did a malfunction for me, though; when Gharn, the boss showed up, the moment he charged and hit me, i "fell through the floor with a graphical glitch and found myself in another area of the dungeon". When i returned to him, though, he broke the wall anew which was somehow fixed, beat him normally without further issue and left.

Shadow Gorge crash is a gamestopper. Always crashes and always at the beginning of the road, just after you blow up the bombs with the pistol. Reminds me of the gamestopping issue of Bloodlines, at hunter monastery; always crashed when you entered the boat with the professor...

I don't know about fix. Hopefully, it is going to be addressed.

Let us contact support and let them know, to pass this to nordic. If the issue is not known, it might as well never been fixed.

No fix, but I'm experiencing the same issue.

Tried messing with the (limited) graphics options and nothing seems to work.

Nah, tampering with the graphics is no good. Even at 640x480 and with everything off.
Bump ... exactly same issue. Upon entering Shadow Gorge game crashes. Hpoing for fix soon!
GOG Support didn't comment on this issue yet or promised to solve this issue.

How much time do we have to wait to play the game again smoothly?

I hardly managed to fast travel to another place and play boring missions or scouting the area for missing pages.

I contacted support of both gog and nordic, like 5 hours ago. Will take some time until they reply... Some more time until they start working on the fix... Come on, we all have something to keep us busy, it is fall sales after all!

But you would do well to contact supports yourselves independently, too, even though i linked this thread to either.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Shadow Gorge crash is related to the shadow crash problems i've had. In any case, so far there is 2 hotfixes out for steam:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/388410/discussions/

So there should be a patch hopefully shortly.
Something is strange in this game, though, Glitch and error wise. Anyone else had the problem i did and i described above, with Gharn (first game boss, in Cauldron)?

Shadow quality it says, i lowered, didn't work... Don't know what else to do. Stuck waiting.

Probably it is my idea, but the movement of aiming is also funny...

Also, first time game suggests you map-travel to Tri-Stone from Cauldron, game ALSO, always crashes, but when you return, you have actually made the trip and you ARE, in Tri-Stone. This i solved by disabling "Tutorials", because if you go go Cauldron anew, game still pauses to suggest you map travel to Tri-Stone.

UPDATE! I got a reply from support and oh boy, was i surprised... (GOG support is steadily becoming as bad as Steam's!)

This is what they replied:

"Hello,
Unfortunately your graphics device is not supported in this game. We weren't able to make the game work reliably on our test computers running that graphics device. Because of this, this graphics device is not listed among the compatible ones on the product page. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Maybe you have access to a different PC that meets the system requirements and that you could use to play the game? "

My eyes... How do i unread this? I even linked the thread here and made sure to mention MANY, if not ALL, players, encountered this issue.

I'm having this exact problem too - and I'm on a brand new NVIDIA GTX980.....crapola! Hope there is a fix soon...
If you leave the graphics settings vanilla and unaltered, then at least, no graphical glitches (broken graphics) or regular random crashes, occur anymore. Still, though, the Shadow Gorge crash is still there, the one and only, the real, GameStopper! Darn!
I've got a little bit of new info regarding the bug. I own the game on Steam as well, so I got curious, and installed that version as well. Yesterday I finally managed to reach the point where you have to enter the Shadow Gorge in the Steam version and the game didn't crash. I went to the next area without any problems. I then went back and started up the GoG version once more and it crashed again, immediately after taking a few steps into the gorge.

So, I guess either one of the hotfixes that the Steam version got in the meantime manages to do the trick, or the GoG and Steam versions differ in some way that I haven't noticed yet. Either way, at first notice, it doesn't seem to be an issue with my system, be it hardware or OS, since one version doesn't show the bug.

Btw, I also did an integrity check for the GoG version with Galaxy, just to make sure I have an uncorrupted install, or at least an install that GoG Galaxy thinks is uncorrupted.

I guess my post doesn't really solve the issue, but maybe it helps someone finding the source of the problem. Another thing I'd like to know is whether the Shadow Gorge crash bug happening for everyone playing the GoG version or just some of us?
Probably, everyone playing the gog version encounters this bug. And as the reviews betray, the clunky/messy/broken targeting mode is also everyone's problem. It is solved by tampering with settings, especially the sensitivity, but if you alter settings, random crashes and broken graphics start happening again.

No fix, game is unplayable, downright. Even if the shadow gorge crash is addressed, no one can hope to defeat The Guardian, or even worse, Beliar, with a bugged targeting mode...
