I found a town where the villagers asked me to choose the most attractive woman and then they tied her to a pole as a sacrifice to a dragon. I doubt it is the same town in each game, but where I found it was east of Duisberg which can be found in A3 on the map It is a repeatable encounter with a chance to increase virtue each time if you rescue her. I'd imagine it is just a rare chance that a town would do this after a dragon appears in the game. In one of the options, you see a woman in white on the battlefield on a stake. Which is one of the more impressive battlefield sprites I have seen in the game. I have no mods installed and only use a character editor to fix corrupted sprites.

I have recently also encountered a chance to get the swordsmith to offer a trainer, but I do not know what I did and have not repeated it. One thing that I have never been able to do and I now doubt is in the game, is attack a cities fortress. The book implies such events so let me know if anyone figured this one out.

Yes, this is one of the scenarios for the dragon encounter. Doesn't always happen. You have to come across the right village in the area. The placement of the village and the dragon's lair is randomly selected from a finite set of locations at the start of each game -- or game cycle, iff you choose to continue playing after completing the major quest line. I've encountered this a couple of times, but most of the time I've managed to accidentally stumble across the lair before the maiden sacrifice scene. Good find! :)

Do you keep copies of saved game files from when you encounter interesting incidences like these?

Cheers!
