Hi there I have dark reign + expansion and when i launch either of them it loads then nothing happens but the task manager says it's running.

So what do I do?

Hey man, I had this same issue, and was digging around the forums looking for a solution. Apparently the installer was updated at some point to address Win10 issues, but I don't believe that it updates *existing* installations.

Anyway, I just uninstalled the game then reinstalled it and the problem was solved. Hope that works for you!

Unfortunately, I am now encountering a new error where saving or loading a game causes Dark Reign to crash.

I assume you have Windows 10. I had the same issue after the 1709 windows update, it even altered and deleted many files from the dark reign folder. And then I couldn't start the game at all for 2 months.
I think Microsoft changed or removed something that was important for dark reign. It doesn't run on my pc at the Moment, I only can't save the game. Killing the explorer exe like we did on Windows 7 might help, but I didn't try that yet.
I mean it "does" run on my pc I just can't save the game anymore.
