I would have loved to see the first game included in the bundle too! I spent so many hours playing it :)

I think people were talking about it being owned by iD, whereas these are owned by Flat Rock / Softdisk.

maybe the first one was too offensive, and gog doesn't want to offend people with gratuitous video game voilence.

That's strange, as far as I know Softdisk distributed several versions of the first game, including the 1990 VGA port I originally played.

Of course, there could be some obscure legal intricacies regarding the ownership and distribution rights of that game.

besides, there were a bajillion or so daves, more then four i know that for sure. I'm surprised you all knew which one the OP was refering to as the first game.

Nope. There was just three ports of the first game (including an unfinished one) and a tech demo called "Dangerous Dave in Copyright Infringement" plus of course the trilogy that we have on GOG now - so it's really just four Dangerous Dave games. Any other "Dangerous Dave" games you may have come upon are unofficial.

Oh yeah, did some research, there was indeed one more game called "Dangerous Dave Returns". It was just the original game with another set of levels and exclusively released on Apple II it seems. Any other releases are ports of sorts though ("ports of sorts"... haha).

Just download the "Gamer's Edge Sampler". The archive includes the VGA version of the original Dangerous Dave game, you will have to run it manually through DosBox though. Apparently not since Flat Rock provides the original game for free through their store. o.o

ID never owned the Dangerous Dave series that IP stayed with softdisk the first game was an straight port of the apple II game the three games in the pack are made with the commander keen engine specifically the same one as keen dreams. the download on the site is the floppy data made to market the gamers edge line at softdisk. the first game is actually produced by id after they quit since they were allowed to leave but still had to produce four games for gamers edge the other two are made by the people who took over gamers edge and are basically cash in titles id made after id finished there contract. catacomb was released the same way id did the first 3d game on an modified wolf 3d engine and received two sequels by softdisk it self.

I hope they include the first game as a free bonus, that would add good value to this pack

Any news on this? gamercard still suggests only 3 games.

I just sent a new email. I'm a bit skeptical honestly; I suspect GOG isn't making it a priority as those games are not best-selling.

I'm pretty sure that I though I was buying the softdisk game, when I purchased this one. Well, maybe it was a flash sale and I didn't have much time or it was cheap and I was being lazy. Anyway, the fault was entirely mine and it looks like I have four more games to try out. :-)
