I wanted to see (and beat the game so I can brag) just how bad and difficult this game is, but I'm not about to waste 6USD/RM18 on an unbeatable game.
Don't waste your time or money. Daikatana is best experienced vicariously. In other words, go on Youtube and find videos of people playing it, laugh at their suffering and move on with your life.

If it's the latest version where you can save anywhere then go grab it.
I played the game recently and have to say that it's not as bad as everyone says or thinks.
It simply didn't meet the expectations and should've been released in 1998.

Latest version? What? I read on rome.ro that v1.2 is the latest patch, so is gog using v1.2 or what?

Yes. The GOG version is latest, just verified it. Go to options/check unlimited saves.
John Romero owes me 60$!

After Daikatana i never bought a game again without checking trailers and reviews first.
At $5.99, I certainly think it's worth it. It's by no means a stellar game, but it's better than it's reputation, at least after the patches.
Did anyone ever make some mods or anything to try and make it better?
i thought it was really fun actually. and i beat it if i remember correctly. it was easy. i might have played it on the easy setting though, be warned.
This game should be under the barrel for 1 dollar and it still isn't worth it.
The game had truly awful marketing and it came much too late. It also had too many bugs when it was released and a couple of awful features like limited saves - but thankfully that was patched.

If you don't let youself get dragged down by all this negativity, the game isn't actually that bad.
the first episode is a trudge, the setting is boring and enemies are unexciting. the game promptly goes from it's worst to it's best in episode 2, set in ancient greece. interesting weapons, colorful level design, and great music. episodes 3 and 4 are also great.

the first episode can kill the momentum, but unless you actively hate it i think you'll be in for a treat when you get past it, which sadly most of the sheep here parroting the same old complaints probably didn't, if they even played it at all. i'm surprised it's still du jure to hate daikatana even after 13 years.
