Seriously, I cannot find a reason to use silencer on smg or handgun. I use stealth and even when i headshot them the damage is not high enough to kill enemy before he/she alerts other enemies.

Early game issue only - as you get further in silencers can ge your best friend - esp on some of the big guns - one shot head poppers!

Once I got to level five, I got a revolver that allowed me to do instakill headshots from stealth.

There is also a skill which gives I think 25% more damage with silencers while in stealth mode. Once you got a good enough gun silencers work really great.
