I'm on my second playthrough and wanted to do the Beat on the Brat questline.

I've done 3 other open fights but when I go to fight El Cesar in the Glen I simply don't get combat controls: Both before I talk with him and inside of the actual arena after agreeing to fight all combat-related options/hud items are disabled: no jumping, no punching, no switching weapons, nothing. All I can do is run around, avoid his punches and eventually get beaten.

Other posters report having the same and other issue on Reddit (www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/t0qrv9/beat_on_the_brat_glen_glitch/), but none of the suggestions there helped (I've reloaded the game and others slightly earlier multiple times, I've quick-travelled as far aways as possible, even restarted the whole game multiple times).

Someone speculated that it's because Padre is sitting nearby and has some "anti-combat area" around him.

Any suggestions?
"Padre is sitting nearby and has some "anti-combat area" around him."
That pesky and way overpowered "pacifist aura" as I like to call it (I'd like a grenade with that effect). ^^

Which patch are you on? I'm on 1.6, and I just did this fight without any issues. Haven't done the Heywood one yet (animals club), but against El Cesar and Buck (which more often than not has been bugged for me) went fine this time.

I have had this exact issue when fighting Buck on an earlier patch way back, like 1.06. I've even killed him multiple times in the first round (preventing mission ending and forcing a reload) with the Microgenerator cyberware.

Only (visual) bug still present is that I got an El Cesar HP bar, as if still fighting him, on top of the screen after I've won the match. Appears when stepping out of the fighting area, and disappears again when going further away.

My suggestions would be first just getting into and back out of a vehicle (surprising how many bugs this simple thing fixes), and getting into and leaving combat elsewhere. Get into combat, finish it, then go back to El Cesar. This should clear out any residual "combat-blocking" glitches.

And obviously don't go anywhere near Padre when doing the fight.

Had an issue similar to this, looks like sometimes the game thinks you're still on a cutscene, in my case I went to a joytoy, paid her to trigger the fun times scene and then my controls were fixed after that.

Is this really true? I've read pretty much this exact line several times on Reddit whenever a bug was posted, but I've never tried it myself.

In that case, does CDPR know that many of their bugs could be handled by having more whor...uhm, "paid companions" in the game? ^^
Thanks for the suggestions.

Unfortunately neither kind of joyride helped solve the issue.

I'm on 1.61 (latest right now).

Interestingly other combat and stuff works perfectly fine (i.e. I'm not stuck in some mega-pacifist mode, it's just this quest that I'm stuck with).

Sex and violence - he calls it a joyride. [insert man of culture meme here]. Highly approved.

Okay, my glitch way back when with this exact fight was the mega-pacifist issue. Where I entered the Padre non-violence area (which I thnk CDPR have since narrowed to a much smaller area) and couldn't use weapons ever again without reloading a save. I'd argue "thou shalt not kill" but I just saw Boondock Saints so...eh, I claim individual judgement.

Presuming you haven't modded your game in a way that might have broken certain features, what you are experiencing are game triggers not...triggering. Where the game doesn't give you the game states for this specific scenario. Also called a soft-lock. These are typically intermittent, and also a bunch of bitc**s to nail down and solve.

Do you have other quests you can do? Another solution I found for game triggers not working properly was just progressing further with the main missions, where you typically also lose normal game control for a brief period (as you do with the Beat on The Brat-mission line). Which is also probably why doing a joytoy ride helps.

EDIT:
Do you have CyberEngine Tweaks (CET) installed? There is a command to force-complete stuck quests, and as if you did the prerequisites to make it count as successful.

If all else fails, install CET and I'll slide you a card under the table with the console command. I haven't tried it with a gig or main quest yet, only side jobs and NCPD hustles (I had to, because I accidentally on purpose glitched out of Watson during Act 1 and started opening loot boxes around the map - that later would become quest boxes...).

Damn that's annoying

if it's Padre causing the issue, he's not there 24/7, can you try doing the quest at midnight or other hours where he's not there?

Do you have any other side quests active?

I did have a specific issue that the Joytoy fixed, my driving overlay (speedometer and all that stuff) was overlapped with the normal UI

I don't have CET installed and don't plan to. I'd rather just leave the quest line unfinished, it's not the end of the world.

On the plus side while trying to figure out the exact dimensions of the "pacifism zone" I found a dead guy who fell to his death with a motorcycle because someone was willing to pay him big money when he scrolled a BD of a daring jump (which he apparently failed). Fun environmental storytelling.

I also appreciate the hint with waiting for Padre to be gone, unfortunately it also led nowhere: I went back just now and Padre wasn't there (yet his marker on the map/minimap stayed). I even waited 24+ hours and he didn't show up again.

Edit: oh and in the pacifism zone I can't even jump, which makes exploration a rather boring thing ...

Fair enough. Depending on your answers after the fight against El Cesar, (sorry if I spoil anything) you'll end up with a vehicle that I personally never use. And 20K Eddies less (I take the "nice" outcome).

Damn shame there are ZERO environment reactions to the car we drive. Like getting some kudos from Claire if using a Caliburn in the "The Beast In Me" quest line (or have the mission fail after some rightful hate from her if showing up in a MaiMai...).
Only exception is Johnny's Porsche and Rogue, but that's basically a mission on its own later on.

On that note, I wouldn't mind traffic actually getting out of the way if we drive around in a police car with the sirens on. Or pedestrians stop and wait when slowly reversing and crossing a sidewalk instead of walking into the car, shouting we're a maniac on impact. Damn zombies in Dying Light is more alive than the CP77 AI. >-<
