as the title says, i am quite bummed that my game don't run above 40 fps when rt is turned on and i don't know why.

i'm running the game on 1440p with quality dlss mode

here's my specs maybe that's where i'm getting c*cked;

ryzen 5 2600x

3080ti 12gb

16gb ram

512gb ssd

please guys, i thought this game ran good with a 3080ti :((

Your CPU is likely to be the weak link here, it's at the lower end of the recommended specs.
aw fudge...
If you can afford it the Ryzen5 5600 is pretty cheap these days and would represent a significant ( and easy ) upgrade depending upon your motherboard/bios version (check compatibility first) .
My 3080ti ( Gigabyte Eagle OC ) was also not good with Raytracing, at least when I tried some months ago ( patch 1.5 I think ), and I have a way better CPU ( 5900X ), 32GB of RAM and the game is on a M2 SSD. Maybe the drivers are better now for the 3000 series though.

Obviously your CPU might be a bottleneck ( your RAM speed too, it's more important than the amount of RAM you have ), but maybe not. Raytracing is a resource hog, even a 3080ti can't handle it well.

I got an RTX 4080 and it's soooo much better, with frame generation it almost reaches 120 fps at 1440p, all maxed out with pathtracing. Night and day with my 3080ti.

yeah i do plan to upgrade my cpu, but i did just buy an 850w psu and a 3080ti, kinda burnt on money rn, kinda sucks but eh whatever i’ll deal with 40 fps for now

Not to bum you out further, but a mere 850 Watt PSU might not be enough in the long run for a 3080 Ti and a more powerful CPU. Reason is the sudden power spikes the RTX 30xx-series are known to draw. This issue, if you get it with a more power hungry CPU, will present itself with bluescreens or random shutdowns under heavy loads.

If you got a good quality PSU, like Corsair AX850 or Seasonic Prime Ultra (or anything else with a Platinum or Titanium sertification), you should be fine. But if's only Gold rated...I would be considering something more powerful. But it would also depend on the rest of your system, and if you're planning on doing any overclocking.

But as to your issue, what TheDogCatcher says is likely the case. There is an easy way to test it though: open Task Manager, and make sure it's set to "Always on top" (checkbox under Options). Then compare CPU and GPU usage while gaming.

If you're really CPU limited, then your CPU will be utilized at near 100 % while your GPU would be at, say, 40 %. The closer the CPU / GPU utilization is, the more performance balanced your system is.

I got an Intel i9 10900K, overclocked and undervolted, and it is barely keeping up with my RTX 3080 (non-Ti).

(closing discord did give me like 5 more frames lmao)

Such heresy! :O
PC is far superiour, so long as you throw enough money at it. And / or balance it properly. ;)

Just take your time when planning a build - wait for deals, and buy first those parts that won't "expire" (like the PC case and storage). Depending on how you want your builds of course.

Honestly, while there are games i play on the PC, Xbox Series X, PS5 and the Switch, sometimes its cheaper to go the console route, if you have the cash spare, so it won't affect any 'oh fuck, i need to a surprise bill' moments, going with PC is better, but not everyone can afford that.

Since you're on Nvidia you can use image scaling to get a lower resolution upscaled to 1440p. It's not ideal but there you have it.

A lot of people don't realize how many resources discord uses. It also phones home many, many, many times about quite a lot of info on your computer or phone.

I don't have access to it anymore, but I installed duckduckgo on my phone, which is a new privacy based browser here in the US, and it had blocked discord from attempting to collect info on my phone over 1,500 times in the course of about an hour.

I no longer use discord. YMMV.

unfortunately no other chat apps are as sufficient for my needs, and i sure as hell can't convince my friends to switch to something else
