It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

This has been one of my favourite games. On my previous tablet PC, running Windows 7, Cultist Simulator worked wonderfully, despite having a lower resolution than was required. I achieved Change:Balance and Threshold victories on that machine and game version (albeit not without taking advantage of the bird/worm setting).

Sadly that machine was stolen last fall. I've replaced it with a newer tablet that runs Windows 11, and re-downloaded the game - it seems there have been heaps of updates since then - and now it's nigh unplayable.

Tapping the screen with my finger doesn't "click" on anything, it treats a tap like a hover, so you can't even start or quit!

I can click on things if I use the stylus, but... not reliably. It treats the slightest movement when clicking as a drag instead of a click. And, I'm having the problem others are reporting where when you drag a card, particularly near the edges of the board, the card moves radically and wants to go to some offset place.

With these two issues combined, I am constantly having cards and verbs fling themselves across the table: I try to click on a card or verb, the game treats it as a drag-and-release, because of the offset it tries to drop the card or verb in a different location, and if there's something else in that location, it decides to send it to who-knows-where.

I have tried telling windows to "Let my use my pen as a mouse when it's available," and increasing the drag threshold in the Registry, to no avail.

I'm also having some issue where different types of cards are stacking on top of each other, which never happened in the previous version of the game.

I've read that there is a beta branch that reverts to the older version of the UI, and I would like to try that or just an older version of the game - if I could at least solve the offset issue, at least when the game drags when I want it to click it shouldn't fling the card somewhere - but I don't see a link or option for them anywhere.

To use the beta version, you need to use Galaxy, as unfortunately the beta version isn't available via the usual download section.

You should be able to point Galaxy at your existing CS folder. Then go to config and choose the beta branch (you'll know it when you see it), and grab that one.
Oof, I hate to install a launcher, that's why I buy from GOG, but I'll give it a go if I can keep it from running and using network resources unasked.

Seems there's been an update in the last week. The card handling is improved, but it's still terrible at putting them back down.

Also noticed another issue while testing it out. I bumped the screen with my finger, causing the game to select a card - but, because it does not handle the touchscreen properly under Windows 11, it refused to un-select. The card became non-interactable, even with the stylus or mouse, until I left the game and re-loaded. Upon re-loading the game, the card leapt across the screen, as if I had attempted to pick it up and put it back down.

EDIT: Having issues installing Galaxy, because of my terrible internet. The installer loses connection and aborts. Which is why I usually use a download manager like Persepolis with the offline installers.
