Die-hard fans will know that the original game had some issues, and some of them were fixed with the community patch while others stayed. We took extra care to address all of these issues in Crystal Caves HD!

• Barrel added to the Episode 3 level selection area where you would get stuck if you played levels in the wrong order.
• Missing key added to E3L10 and E3L12 so you can open treasure chests.
• Unreachable chest in E3L09 can be reached now
• Candle pickup has a sound now.
• Fruit does not spawn randomly anymore, so the run for the top score stays fair. Instead, each level has 3 hidden triggers that spawn fruit nearby when you approach them.
• The green border when collecting all the crystals is back! For the players that don't know, the Green border indicates that you have collected all the crystals on the level and it is ok to exit.
• Some levels throughout all 3 episodes got additional bonus pickups & secret crystals. This was done to fill empty areas in the levels from the original game.
• Impossible to get crystal in Episode 2 is "slightly" easier to get now. You still have to work at it!
• Whirlwind treasure trap...is it really a trap? Can you discover how?

One of the achievements mentions Hard mode. As I recall, the original had no difficulty selection, what’s this mode like?
Indeed, the remake features new difficulties - Easy, Normal, and Hard where Normal is the original difficulty.
On hard, you get fewer hearts & less ammo but the score multiplier is bigger - this is for veteran players & highscore seekers.

Sometimes gog.com is a biit vague can i have an actual date when its coming out instead of coming soon.
Another change: Emberheartgames neglects to mention that the game is hardcoded to 16:10 output, rather than aspect ratio-corrected to 4:3.

Well, no, it is not so clear.

Consider this: The original Crystal Caves listing also displays uncorrected 16:10 screenshots (as do a majority of GOG.com DOSBox-emulated listings that I've observed)--a shortcoming of GOG.com's vetting process. [1] That said, GOG.com does package a bespoke GUI wrapper for DOSBox with their game downloads that allows aspect ratio-correction.

[1] There are, of course, exceptions to the rule--a minority of DOS games are intended for 16:10 output.

In your case, you have presented an "HD" re-release of the same game ("HD" what? Menu text?), also with uncorrected gameplay output. But you refuse to acknowledge the lack of aspect ratio correction as an issue for this title. You can't simply assume that potential customers will understand the nuances of what is going on (the nature of CRT output and the necessity of aspect-correction for modern screens); many of them may have never played the original or were even alive during that decade.

Aside from that, you're misrepresenting the original artwork (the original game, as released for contemporary hardware) and the intentions of its creator. The game was simply never intended for 16:10 output (much like Commander Keen). Don't be disingenuous about this historical fact. Therefore, it is a travesty to represent Crystal Caves HD as a "remaster".

Why do you continue to side-step this matter of aspect-ratio correction with non-answers? Are you really that arrogant or are you just inept? The minimum required output for "pixel perfect" rendering is 1600x1200 (or any multiple of). There are various scaling algorithms in the wild that do a good enough job for rendering at other output resolutions. Why do you not consider adding a setting for aspect ratio-correction?

Hello,
i would like to echo something i have heard in pre-review:

Whilst the music is fairly nifty and decently produced i would prefer something more in-line with than prevailing trends for PC music, Midi or Adlib or something. I have excessively fond memories of the soundtrack for TTdL for reference point on where i am coming from. Outside of that i am quite pleased with the game as is.

Agreed. This sounds WAY too NES-like for my tastes. Hell, FM Synth would be cool, just something that sounds like what a PC game would sound like in the early 90s.
