The process stops running seconds after launch. The log says "GoG: Initializing galaxy API". I don't have Galaxy installed, because it doesn't get through my firewall.

Is Galaxy necessary to run this game? I thought it is an optional client.

Hi,

We tested the game on a system that never had Galaxy and it ran with no problems but, as with anything, there may be a bug or something that we did not account for. In this case it would really help us if wrote to our Support department about this issue :)

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help :)
Galaxy definitely shouldn't be necessary to run the game. Can you please post the entire contents of the log?
Hi there,

I currently don't have access to the log, but this one line was the whole content of the log.

I had Galaxy installed once, but uninstalled it as I couldn't run it because of my firewall. I reinstalled it yesterday and the firewall issue has been removed by now. The game also works without issue.

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else to find the bug.
Other people complain about the same issue in the comments section of the CotN release blog entry. It seems that all of them had Galaxy installed and then uninstalled, or Galaxy installed but not updated and not running. This issue has not happened yet to a system in which Galaxy has not been ever installed.

It seems that uninstalling Galaxy may leave behind some kind of trace that CotN mistakenly interprets as "Galaxy is up and running", and then crashes as Galaxy isn't really there. I hope GOG can fix this. Meanwhile, the quick fix is to reinstall Galaxy and launch CotN through it.

Give the game permission to access localhost (127.0.0.1) in your firewall.
