Wait, that's a lie. It IS playable, but barely so and in a state from which I derive no enjoyment whatsoever. I purchased The Albian Years, and Creatures 1 works to absolute perfection. However, Creatures 2 is ridiculously slow. It's like a slide show- the screen will update itself every five-ten seconds. It's a pity because I was looking forward to trying it out for the first time.

All help will be mightily appreciated.

Can you post your system specs, the process you went through to install the game, and any addons you are using?
Terribly sorry about the delay. It's a Win7 64bit, DirectX 11, 4gb RAM, Intel Core i7 CPU (2.80GHz). As for the process, not much I can say about it. A perfectly normal textbook installation with everything doing exactly as it should, not much input from me apart from prompts. No addons at all, either.

Have you tried running as administrator and with different compatibility settings? Besides that, do you have the latest DirectX 9 (it's separate from DX11) installed as well?
i too am also having this issue and i have tried all compatibility options and nothing works
Not sure if you're still active but have you recently updated your graphics card's drivers? I had the same problem and I managed to solve it by reinstalling the previous set of drivers I was using.
