Hello all

I'm running Creatures Albian Years (1 & 2) on Windows 8 64-bit. Creatures 1 is fine but in Creatures 2 I get an opaque immovable black box that shows up in other open apps as well as the desktop. (Image attached)

I am running the same OS with 64-bit and have encountered the same problem. The only workaround I've found to resolve this is the following:

1) Set the program to windowed mode
2) Move the window to the bottom of your screen so that you can only see the upper task bar (minimize, windowed, X)
3) Exit C2
4) Reopen C2 and it should be at the bottom of the screen where you last left it
5) Maximize the window and there should be no visible black box (it's technically still there, just off the screen)

This should work to hide the black box from your view. You will have to do this each time you exit C2 or else the black box will return.

Unfortunately, I've found other issues that are an annoyance and don't seem to have a workaround. For example, the drop down menus only display the first one or two items and the rest go invisible. Frustrating to say the least, but at least you should be able to play the game.

Thanks Danski! This does indeed eliminate the black box.

I'd given up after GOG support said the games aren't supported on Win8

C2, however, really hates Win8 64-bit. It runs so slowly the norns speak one halting syllable at a time. It seems much better on my older Win 7 32-bit pc.

How do I set the program to windowed mode? I went to property settings and I see nothing but normal window, maximized, and minimized... I
I am running windows 8.1..... oh how I hate windows 8.

I am also having this problem....
I've uninstalled the game and reinstalled it hoping it will work, but that didn't do a thing...
Running Windows10...
Help?

Also on Windows 10, also finding C2 to be pretty broken. I did, however, at least find a *better* workaround for the black box problem. Hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del to go to the Security Screen and then canceling out makes it go away. However, it doesn't do anything for the missing cursor.

Interestingly, I did confirm the cursor IS there, just invisible. I have a touchscreen, and I can double-tap the screen to activate things, which makes it almost playable. However, since I've never played the game before, it's added yet another barrier to entry.

I'm not sure if it will help, but there is a bit of information about the Black Box of Doom (as it's known as), which might help some of those players who are having trouble in Windows 8 & 10. Unfortunately I've never encountered it and can't add anything else, but who knows... Maybe that will be of a bit of use to at least one person!
