Hello all,

Started up a new game of Creatures 1 on a WinXP machine, and the game freezes when I double click an egg to hatch. I've tried setting every .exe in the folder to Win95 compatible, but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've never heard of this exact issue before, but hopefully you'll be able to figure it out soon! Pardon my gigantic list of questions... Just trying to get a better idea of what's going on! I'm also assuming you're using the GOG.com version of the game.

- Have you installed the Remastered Patch?
- Did you install any other COBs or third-party addons?
- Have you tried creating a brand new world and using the hatchery from there?
- Have you tried injecting a Norn egg from the Genetics Kit, and/or importing a Norn?

Maybe someone else has another idea. It's always frustrating when you run across a glitch like this! Hopefully you'll have everything up and running again soon!
No, we haven't installed anything other than the installer package from GOG. No additional add-ons or patches. We are seeing this problem in a brand new game - we haven't been able to hatch a single egg yet. We can scroll around the game screen and open the hatchery, but upon double-clicking the first egg, the computer freezes and must be powered off - can't even reboot it or end the task.

Something I just noticed: When I move the hand pointer to the hatchery window, the hand stays outside of the box and a normal mouse pointer appears inside the hatchery. I can't click and drag an egg out with the hand. In the attached image you can see the hand stuck at the bottom of the hatchery window, but my image capture didn't show the active mouse pointer.

The image you posted is normal: The hatchery is a separate applet that is opened in a new window. You'll notice this with the other kits, too! Kind of strange, but that shouldn't be an issue. The eggs in the hatchery are meant to be double-clicked on: There's no way to pick one up or drag it elsewhere.

It definitely just freezes up, with no error message or anything?
