I am unable to import Norns, as the Import Creature option is grayed out, but I still have the option to export Norns. I am new to this series, as I only recently found out about it, and thought it seemed really interesting, and I am unable to find anything about this problem online. I will greatly appreciate any advice people can give me. The OS I'm using is Windows 10, in case that is part of the problem.

A few shots in the dark: You're already at max population or close to it.

You've somehow installed the game to a place where the read/write permissions are strange.

There aren't any valid files to import.

I'm not sure about any solutions, but maybe you could try one of the debug cheats.

Thanks for responding to my post. I think it's the population limit. I initially had nine Norns. I exported one, without realizing that that would delete him from the game. I was then unable to import him back in, as the option was grayed. I considered that it might be the population limit based on your suggestion, so I exported another Norn, and was given then option to import. I read online that the max population for creatures 1 was twelve. Is the max population at which I can import Norns less then what the game actually allows through breeding, and is there a way to increase this number through cheats. I can only find population cheats for Creatures 2 and not Creatures 1.

It's a little complicated. Basically, the default world only supports that population for sanity reasons. There's only so much room and resources to be shared among them all. Custom worlds can support upwards of 24 norns. (But this is still a bad idea, due to being a nightmare to manage. :p)

A popular world for this was Terra Nornia. (Details here.)

The wiki says the population limit is 12, but I can't import when I only have 8 Norns, even though I used to have 9. Is the population limit for importing Norns supposed to be less then the overall limit, and can I temporarily increase this number, just to import the Norn I accidentally removed? I don't necessarily want to increase the population limit, i just want to import the Norn I accidentally removed.

It's been a hot while since I last played. But if I vaguely recall the population count includes pregnant norns and eggs. Basically, if the incubator is closed, you're at or over the limit to import.

I don't recall any method to increase the population limit.

The incubator doors are closed, and the hatchery is also grayed out, but both of these things are fixed when I have under 8 Norns, so it is probably the population limit. I don't think it is supposed to be as low as 8, and I did reach a population of 9, so maybe there is something wrong with the game, like a glitch. Anyway, I am grateful for your time.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to provide anything outright concrete. I'd say to look among the community sites, but most of them have closed shops or faded off the internet into Link Rot.
I just read on the wiki that the breeding and import limit are two separate things, and that the import limit is supposed to be 8 while the breading is 12, the game is working fine, it is not a glitch like I thought..

Glad you can find it, although it is strange that those are the defaults.

I suppose that's why custom worlds were popular to use in C1.
