Recently purchased the base game and the DLC while on sale. Love the game so far but cant find any reasonable source of detailed info. There is some gamepedia wiki but its very light and well out of date. Does anyone know of a detailed source of info?
I didn't find any better source either. On the other hand the game is pretty intuitive, there are not many things that require out of game resources to figure out... Few pointers that I didn't discover for a long time:

- when placing some of the more advanced walls, the game sometimes chooses to place them in weird shape. You can change the shape by selecting the same kind of wall and clicking on the already placed one. Requires you to craft one more than would be needed
- on the topic of walls - if you only care about defence, don't bother with hollow walls. They look nice but sometimes monster will glitch through to the hollow part and in extreme cases force you to rebuild part of your fotress to be able to kill it. Use solid brick wall if possible
- elevators are awesome, railways would have to be moved too often to be of use while mining resources. Maybe for renewables, like lakes or access to distant parts of your farm
- I couldn't get the fences or loopholes to work - enemies go straight through and dwarfs won't shoot through loopholes. In fourth world the door and wooden spikes work weird too - the dog-like monsters will go straight through both
- dwarf AI works reasonably well when collecting resources, but is terrible when you are building something and they need to bring resources from stockpile. Each dwarf will only ever grab one piece of needed stuff, bring it to the site, place it, and then return for another. Regardless of how much of a similar work is waiting near the first location. Example: farming. Once your farm gets larger (from the center of the island all the way to left or right side), the crops near the central shaft will be long ripe while the further parts will still be waiting for seeds. Each dwarf could carry many seeds (6?) at once, but no, they have to bring each seed individually... Can be mitigated by a portal (the obvious and costly way), but also by controlling a dwarf and placing stuff manually. While controlled, they don't need to bring anything, it just magically appears. Saves huge amount of time on larger projects.

Apart from this, I've won the game, and all you really need to know is BUILD UNDERGROUND!!!
Thanks guys. I have played about 20 hours now between at least a dozen games and having a lot of fun. I was looking for things that provided more detail around items and creatures. Like the owlcat vs frogolisk. I saw somewhere the specific numbers behind their attack and life claiming the frogolisk was slower but tougher. Cant seem to find any source of those kinds of details. Just my play style, I like to have one play through "perfect" in terms of resource usage and the like. Anyway, having a great time with the game, highly recommended if anyone is on the fence.
This seems useful as well...

Especially the part about salvage.
