tinyE: They can't dig through the roof if they can't get to it. :P When I say walls, I don't mean of the building, I mean actual stone walls totally separate from the main structure, four to five wide, ten or more high. They might get through, but if the do it will only be a few and it will take so long they won't have much time to do anything before the sun comes up and cooks them. :D

Petrell: I did exacly that. Build 5 block wide 7-8 block high wall to slow them down but instead of trying to go over it, they just dug 10 blocks down into my tunnel network spanning the whole map and thru my roof. That's 10 blocks of rock btw. I basically tried any means avaialble to me but nothing worked. The hordes are just too big (like 100 skeletons, 50+ gargoyles, dozens of eye beasts, giant skeletons and trolls) and I just got swarmed what ever I did.

As for magic, I'm at the point it takes hours to get a level to replenish my magic so I had to use mana potions to have any most of the time and most of that is used portals as it takes way too long for dwarves to walk anywhere (like 5-10 minutes just to walk once from base to bottom of my tunnels and back).
Hmmm, they haven't dug down on me.

I guess I have that to look forward to. Shit.

I uploaded a screenshot of my base above. Coveniently with invasion starting (oddly only 2 portals as far as I can see, one in right is missing, meybe it has been toned down in patch?). The barricades on the left are for times they dig down to my tunnels. Probably should've build my base deep underground.

It looks a little big. :P
There is no way I could defend that whole thing.

How did you get the screen shot?

Ok. It seems difficulty may have been toned down. They did not even manage to get into my base before dawn even when I kept my dwarves inside. Either that or because they did not dig into my base this time. Maybe both as there was only 2 portals.

Err, with Steam. Tried print screen but it only captures my desktop, not the game. :-/ I don't think Galaxy has this feature yet? Some recording software (like FRAPS) probably could do it too.

Edit: print screen works if you play windowed mode but as I mentioned above, not in full screen mode for what ever reason.

Let's try this. The hole in my wall on the right was put there by me to make getting around a little easier. I will fill it in when the timer hits around five minutes.

I blame my OCD in making my base look good! ;-p

The reason they don't dig down in your map is that you have not made swiss cheese out of your world unlike me (as you can see from my screenshot, I methodically make 2 tiles high tunnels that span the whole map on top of each other ensuring I don't miss even single piece of material on the map).

I might try filling in some of the top tunnels, making the walls even higher and shrinking my wood growing area or even filling it in all toghether.

I want to finish the campaign so that I can go to sandbox be more decorative and build a fabulous palace. :D Right now I'm just trying to survive. The only decor I have is stuff I found laying around.

Trust me, if you saw some of my Terrria bases you'd realize how OCD I am. ;P

Considering how akward building and remodeling thanks to it's mobile roots, that's probably good idea. It's going to be gone when you go to next level anyway.

Oh and by the way, monsters can dig both downwards and sideways as they did in screenshot. Aand the third portal is back :-/. Wonder if later levels have even more or if they just send more and tougher monsters. While I managed to fend of attacks with minimal loses this time arond, frustration with the game starts to kick in. I'm just not having fun with it. Probably better get back to other games. :-p

Yeah...NO WATER!

I had to build a pond underground.

Right now I'm on World 3 which is a desert world and it has sandstorms which empties out your stock pile so 1st things first you need to build a stone shelter around it, and if you see a storm, portal back because it will take your men too.

tinyE: No, but I can tell you right now traps a re a waste.
Foot traps yes (I believe I have only once seen a monster getting affected), but cages (especially the later iron ones) have their use...they will only catch zombies, but at least reduce the amount of monsters you have to fight at once a bit.

Thanks! I'll try them. God knows I have enough extra steel.
Got to the last world.

Something tells me I'm fucked now. :P
FINISHED THEM ALL!!!

Only took me three months. :P
