There is an alternative multiplayer service, but I haven't tried it yet.
It's called GameRanger you can find the Cossacks series in the Games list: http://www.gameranger.com/games/

It works.
I also played American Conquest Fight Back plenty of times on Game Ranger.

Regarding Cossacks Back to War, please try the Imperia Mod and when you will see how good it is ( hybrid of Cossacks and American Conquest ) you will never go back to the original game.

It's good to hear that it works.

I tried out Imperia mod today. This was the first time I ever played Cossacks with a mod actually, but to be honest I still prefer the original game.

News from the GSC forum about Gamespy:

As known, GameSpy has decided to shut down servers supporting multiplayer in hundreds of games. This is going to happen on May 31. Obviously, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will be affected as well.

We are looking for a solution which will be our own service that will implement some of the GameSpy protocols. Beta version is already in our labs. We encourage all players and operators of game servers to become beta testers.

(....)GSC Game owns this server and plans to support it for at least when the game is available on the Steam and retail.

We also plan to extend it for supporting other our games which use GameSpy - 1st Cossacks series.
