So, the control responsiveness in this game is clearly not what it should be for a professionally released product. I sometimes have to press the jump button as many as four times before Cosmo finally jumps. This is bad news when you're jumping up icy walls suspended over damage spikes or even bottomless pits. I'd had to start a level over from the beginning many a time because of the game ignoring my button presses.

Was the game really this bad when it was first released, or is this some bug with the GOG emulation?

Ain't nothin to do with GOG, it's played through DOSBox. The game plays as it did when it was released.
There's probably a small chance you might be having issues if you're using a controller instead of a keyboard.

No, I've always used a keyboard for this game.

On the bright side, since starting this thread I've finished the game, so at least the problems can be overcome.
