First of all, I played this before. And I had to delete all of my cloud saves and my HDD saves, or else the game would act up if I selected "new game", like upgrades disappearing, or no progress saving at all.

After that it seemed to work.

This could be an amazing game. But Remedy thought it would be a great idea not to let you manually save your progress in different slots. Actually you can't save at all, the game does it for you.

Here's the thing: I had a crash after about ten hours of gameplay. After that I reloaded, continued, and the progress of the last three hours was just gone. Two missions were reset (complicated missions, but worth the reward). All upgrades up to that point gone.

That is a no go. This would not have happened with a manual save system.

On my first play through a few years ago I did not encounter crashes. Now I did. One crash was all it took.

I'm done with this kind of developer arrogance. No more.

Screw Remedy.

Edit:
Just found this review by Smashthstate on the product page:

Great game, watch out for your save file

At one point the game has corrupted my save file after a crash, forutnately I was able to pull an older save from the GoG cloud because I didn't quit the game as soon as I found out that the save was corrupted and thus prevented the corrupted file from being synced to the cloud. If you don't want to rage after losing 15 hours of progress you might want to find your save files and make a copy from time to time because if a corrupted save file makes it to the cloud you are screwed. How can developers be so incompetent to fail at something so basic as save file validation in the year 2020?

Wish I had read that. Still, a totally messed up save system is totally unnecessary.
