I just started the game last night (lucky timing). And I've been running into all sorts of weirdness with saves, and some other crashes (which I think may be save related). All on patch 1.3 I. I hadn't played before it before.I am using the Galaxy launcher. I have seen that there does seem to be other people with save issues, but they don't sound like mine exactly.
For one, the little save icon in the bottom right corner tends to come on and just keeps going. Things were going fine my first time until the first time I died, then I got the message about saves not being able to be loaded and it did a weird infinite loop, where after a loading screen, it went blank and then after a few seconds I heard a few grunts like being hit and then the death animation and return to loading screen, lather rinse repeat. I haven't had that happen since, but everything has still been screwy. I tried continuing a game after relaunching, and it started at the very beginning, but for some reason I had a few of the documents I had picked up in the earlier attempt. I later had crashes occasionally while picking up documents, not always but sometimes (and it'd do it right when the save icon came on). And had the same kind of issue, starting from the beginning but still have documents

I've tried a few things, verifying the installed files, reapplying patch 1.3, reinstalling direcx, deleting the saves manually, etc. Things would occasionally seem ok, but I can't see a consistent reason for it. At first I thought it was from turning off cloud saves, but I'm not so sure now., I wouldn't have the constant save icon for example sometimes, but then would have random crashes when picking up a document .My latest attempt I got much further, but the constant save icon came back partway through. I tried closing to the menu and it froze completely on the main menu and had to have the process killed.. But later after rebooting and restarting, I tried continuing, and for the first time I wasn't starting from the beginning, instead at the astral section right after getting the Service Weapon. But still had the issue of the constant save icon, and freezing on exit.

So I'm just kind of stumped right now. Is this all because of a bad patch? Or was it already going? Any word on a hotfix coming? I guess I can still try a few things, fresh install, using the stand-alone version without the launcher, trying to downgrade to an earlier patch, etc. But I seem to be mostly fumbling in the dark.

Well, it certainly seems to be a GOG issue. I uninstalled, did a fresh install of the non-galaxy version, and it still had the same issues. But then I tried installing the non-ultimate edition version I got from Epic as a giveaway some time ago. So far it's working just fine, without any of the same problems, was able to save, load, exit to the main menu and load again, etc. So the issue is either in the difference between the basic edition and the Ultimate Edition, or it's an issue with whatever GOG does.Hopefully there will be a fix from GOG soon.

I have recently tried to play Control and I have the exact same issue. I have tried every single fix I could find online, but with no success. I've also tried to run directly from the game .exe to avoid any conflicts with GoG Galaxy overlay or cloud save and still no luck. It might be a problem with GoG 1.30 version, but I cannot confirm as I don't have the game on other platforms to test it.

The only "fix" I've found was to download the old "Update 2" version from 5 years ago. With this old version, I was able to play the base game for a few hours without any of the issues reported in the first post, but I'm also unable to access any of the DLCs present in the Ultimate Edition.

Still bugged in version 1.3.1, this is super annoying.

Edit: apparently launching the game as administrator fixes the problem. Hope it will last
