Just installed this today and had a look around but noticed that every time I use the game shortcut GOG Galaxy keeps opening as well every single time.

Is there a way to play this on its own without the client?

Was the game installed directly via GOG Galaxy or did you install it using the offline installer files?

I installed it via the client and I think that was the issue. I got the offline installer and now it runs on its own without the need for the client. I should have realised that ... Oh well .

When you install it via client the shortcut Galaxy will create is configured in a way that it will always start Galaxy before the game will launch. You can change that by deleting the shortcut, going into the game folder and copy the "Launch game name" file to your Desktop. Then you have a normal shortcut again. Works for every game that is sold here on GOG.

Thank you..... Will remember that for my other games when I install them.

THIS POST, however old, isn't only the RIGHT answer to the original question, it's a feature I didn't know was available until I read it here.

THIS POST sort of changes everything for me -- I always prefer Steam. always. GOG Galaxy I find slower, finnicky, always unable to process more than one download in queue. (I hate that - if trying to add another download the Windows confirmation window will always hang. shrug!) I also just don't like having more than one client open at a time, so going back and forth from Steam to GOG Galaxy (or Ubisoft Connect or EA Origin if I happen to be hating myself that day) just kind of sucks out loud.

however. HOWEVER. this?? I just tried it, it absolutely works. you click the icon, the game launches, no client at all. like it was 2001 or something. absolute game-changer (in the most literal sense possible, laff).

this one feature DOES make me favor GOG as a whole a lot more. a LOT more. this is awesome. thank you, sir.

Thanks to your comment, my 7 year old PC can now run BG 3 without any stutter. Having the client open in the background made the game almost unplayable. You're my hero <3

Really, really sorry for the necro, but this seems to no longer be true. At least for me.

I've been using Galaxy for a while now. Lately, I noticed that if I download the game through Galaxy, and then I go into the folder where the executables are (the '[gamename].exe'), and I click that, the game simply won't launch.

The ONLY way I can play it is through Galaxy.

It's maddening. Does anyone have any idea why?

Have you installed the game directly via Galaxy or downloaded the offline installer files and used those to install the game? If you installed it directly then I recommend trying the offline installer files. I just did a fresh install and checked if the game would launch fine and it did no matter if I picked the Control_DX11.exe or Control_DX12.exe. Control.exe just opens a small menu where you can chose between launching the game with DX11/DX12.

I've tried "everything" and I still can't make the game to launch. There's just no reaction, nothing. Any other suggestions on how to fix this? It used to work, that's why I use gog in the first place! I am not a gamer and not any expert on IT, so I need it in plain writing. (I am capable to understand all of the above tips, but that's pretty much as complicated as it can be for me to understand)

For me and The Witcher 3; I can have it work fine on some pc's with gog galaxy installed but on one pc I have to disable my internet to get it to launch without the gog galaxy client running; otherwise gog galaxy will try to force a 48GB update on the game that I don't want (DX12) and will prevent me from playing it all without.
Wait... Galaxy //works// for you?
i don't think i can link stuff here but checkout "Heroic Games Launcher" it is open source and trusted
