I've never played this genre in my life but I'm intrigued. The thing is I tried reading the manual and it's very very boring with lots of information to digest. Do you guys have any tips on getting started with the game? Is Constructor even a good choice to get into simulation/managerial games?
Ooh no it's not an ideal game to get into the simulation/management genre. Way too difficult for that.
- If you're interested in a quirky funny game in the genre, which is what constructor is, then rather check out Theme Hospital
. It's not an easy game by any means, but it's way easier and far less frustrating than Constructor. Try to set it up with CorsixTH for the best experience.
- The best game in the genre for me overall, is the complete and very faithful remake (pretty much a mimic) of transport tycoon deluxe : openttd
installed over/using gog's copy of rct2 is another great choice, but expect to take some time to get used to the controls and learn the ropes with this one: figuring out how to build at different elevations and how to place stairs the way you want to can be a baffling experience the first time :P
- And finally, another excellent game in the genre, and I'd say the easiest of the 3 to get into (though the difficulty does ramp up as you continue with the campaign) : Startopia
You can always return to Constructor if you feel up to it. Compared to each of the above it is its own type of game and easily as much fun when things are going well. However it's far more difficult (to me at least) than any of them, and to such an extent that I fear it could easily put someone off the genre.
